This shoot was chosen at an outdoor pool, mainly to catch the tail end of summer and shoot a set of Genshin Impact cosplay poolside photoshoot with refreshing summer water elements. To fit the summer theme, I chose lightweight and breathable fabrics for the costume's material, while simplifying some heavy accessories to make the overall styling visually lighter and easier for movement demonstrations by the poolside.

Shooting by the water is actually quite challenging. Although the light around four o'clock in the afternoon was soft, the reflection from the water surface was very strong. To avoid uneven lighting or overexposure on the face, I asked the photographer to add a softbox at the side-backlight position, which could preserve the highlights on the edges of the hair while allowing the facial lighting of the character to transition naturally. This time we brought a giant inflatable yellow duck toy; it was not only a great interactive prop, but also played a role in visual balance for the composition. For the first half-body photo, I deliberately leaned next to the duck, utilizing the contrast between yellow and the background blue to highlight the character.

The second action of sitting at the edge of the pool kicking water took several tries. The moment of splashing water is hard to capture; to achieve a natural droplet-freezing effect, the shutter speed was adjusted above 1/800th of a second, while having the assistant help create splashes nearby, and I was responsible for keeping my limbs stretched, ensuring my expression management didn't collapse just because water splashed onto me. This photo beautifully showcased the costume's details, including the crisscross straps at the waist, tassel decorations, and puff sleeve design on the arms, and the leg lines could also be naturally revealed during the water-playing movements. The hollow-out cut at the waist and abdomen, set against the light and shadow by the water, just right presented the body curves.

The third is a relatively relaxed selfie perspective. Holding a donut prop in hand, utilizing the reflection of the phone screen to assist composition. This action close to daily life can make the character more vivid, breaking the feeling of the second dimension. In terms of makeup, I deliberately enhanced the contour of the eye makeup, using orange-brown eyeshadow and natural-color contact lenses, which could enlarge the eyes without making the makeup look too heavy, cooperating with tender pink blush to create a full-of-energy state.

Many friends have asked about precautions for water-side outdoor shoots; actually, the most important thing is good sun protection and clothing protection. Before entering the water, I tried to remove all detachable accessories to prevent them from falling into the pool. At the same time, towels and a change of clothes were laid out on the shore, because blowing water wind can easily cause a cold. Prop carrying also needs to be streamlined; although inflatable toys that are too large look great in photos, inflating and transporting them is truly a physical task.

Every time I do an outdoor shoot, from clothing arrangement and prop preparation to on-site light control, it requires repeated adjustments. Especially shooting by the water, one must also consider the weight and light transmission of the costume after getting wet, so the early preparation was very thorough. Although summer is coming to an end, being able to record the joy of playing in the water in summer through this set of photos feels truly worthwhile. I hope everyone can maintain such a refreshing mood in the upcoming autumn.
