[Lumine cosplay] Qingdao Lantern Festival Night View Has Such a Lantern Rite Vibe!

Choosing to shoot this night photo set at Mingyue Shanhaijian was truly because its lantern festival atmosphere matches this outfit perfectly. When the lights turn on at night, paired with those red pillars and decorative lanterns, it easily captures that lively and festive Lantern Rite vibe from Genshin Impact. As for transportation, I took the subway and got off at Hongdao Station, which is quite close. Since online posts mentioned highway tolls for driving, I strongly recommend taking the subway instead—it saves a lot of hassle.

For this shoot, I specially prepared a modified red-and-white winter outfit. The red portion features subtle patterns and embroidery, topped with a thick white plush collar that brings festive warmth the moment you put it on. To match the overall cool yet cute disposition, I paired it with a White stockings outfit and white ankle boots trimmed with fur. Blonde hair styled into twin tails, tied simply with red cords on both sides, echoed the red elements of the outfit. The candied hawthorn (tanghulu) was the core prop of this look; its red sugar coating glistened under the warm lights. Holding it while making lively gestures, like lifting one leg or holding it overhead, added plenty of agility to the frame. There was also a photo holding a "May Everything Go Smoothly" charm, a little ornament full of Chinese New Year charm for this Chinese-style cosplay.

Before shooting, I noticed posts mentioning heavy holiday crowds during Spring Festival, so I deliberately chose a weekday evening. Arriving on-site, crowds were indeed smaller than on holidays, though some tourists still stopped to watch. At popular spots near railings, a little patience was needed to avoid crowds for a clean background. Ambient lighting during shooting was fantastic; huge round lanterns overhead and colorful antique buildings provided great material for background bokeh. No extra harsh lights were needed—warm glow from lanterns reflected onto my face gave skin a radiant look and created beautiful catchlights in the eyes during this Qingdao photography session.

Walking around during the shoot allowed the photographer to capture dynamic candid moments, which yielded much more natural results than rigid poses. Poses like leaning against the railing with cheeks in hands, clasping hands in prayer, or winking while holding the tanghulu all carried great atmosphere. However, one small detail: although the tanghulu was a prop, it still required careful handling to prevent red paint from chipping and ruining shots. Outdoor nighttime temperatures were quite low; even with plush fur on the costume, staying warm was essential for long shoots. I suggest fellow cosplayers aiming for a similar style bring hand warmers.

The overall environment carried a fascinating offset feeling blending 2D anime style with Chinese traditional aesthetics. Integrating Lumine cosplay into a real-life lantern festival offered a powerful sense of stepping through dimensions into Genshin Impact. Since the scenic area's dominant colors were red, yellow, blue, and green, this red-and-white outfit brought festive cheer without clashing or cluttering against backgrounds.
