Today, I finally brought out the Marionette (Sandrone) costume from Genshin Impact for a shoot. When scouting locations, I deliberately searched for a room filled with fresh blooms and verdant greenery; the wooden bed frame and vintage window panes harmonized flawlessly with this European classical-style gown. For this session, the primary goal was capturing a tranquil yet enigmatic atmosphere, so we incorporated dense vines and floral arrangements to enrich the spatial depth and avoid an empty backdrop.
This gown contains immense detail: the lace trims of the headpiece and the black-and-gold arm sleeves alone required meticulous preparation, while the ruby embellishments across the bodice and skirt hem provided the crowning touch. To channel the Marionette's exquisite, doll-like detachment, I accentuated the eyes with makeup and donned striking bright blue contact lenses. The wig underwent heavy structural styling, ensuring the curve of the bangs rested just above the eyebrows to evoke that porcelain puppet aura. The palette revolves around black, white, and gold, accented with crimson highlights. The high-contrast color scheme demanded rigorous exposure control during the shoot to prevent blown highlights.
Throughout the session, many poses took place on the floor and bed. Because the skirt features three distinct layers of black, gold-yellow, and white, standing upright easily flattens the tiers; reclining or lying on my side allowed the skirt to fan out fully, showcasing its authentic tailoring. In the side-lying shot on the bed, lifting a leg not only added aesthetic grace, but also highlighted the pairing of the White tights cosplay with the gold hem stitching, introducing visual breathability. The stockings carry subtle light compression to sculpt the leg shape, providing visual balance against the substantial weight of the gown. Simultaneously, side-lying and leg-lifting poses elongated leg lines gracefully, offering the ideal angle to capture the texture of the white tights. The metallic prop behind me served as a major visual anchor; holding it single-handedly required firm wrist support to keep the stance effortless while preserving an impassive gaze. For close-up portraits, perspective and depth-of-field control were paramount—a wide aperture blurred the floral background to isolate focus on the subject. We constantly adjusted angles of seated and reclining postures to maintain natural lines across the skirt and body. Taking advantage of the gentle indoor natural light from the windows, side-backlighting carved out character contours while granting dimensional depth to the fabric folds.
