[Tamamo no Mae cosplay] Arts Shrine Maiden Fox in Fate/Grand Order: Convention Log

Day 1 official photoshoot of Tamamo no Mae cosplay at the 38th Firefly ACG Expo, where the on-site atmosphere maxed out. Choosing to portray this Arts shrine maiden fox from Fate/Grand Order was mainly because her unique, confident yet playful temperament deeply attracted me. Her lore setting of being "exceptionally capable" combined with lines like "I'll decisively curse you" made me constantly want to capture that clever, slightly cunning fox spirit charm while preparing for this cosplay.

First was preparing the entire outfit. That blue and gold mirror prop was specially customized by me to restore her wielding a catalyst in original settings. Fox ears and that big fluffy tail were absolutely the soul of this Fox spirit costume; to ensure the tail stayed fluffy and upright during outdoor convention activities and night shots, I spent significant effort beforehand combing and securing it. The pink twin-tail wig paired with golden hair ornaments and tassels also fit the "little fox" tone nicely.

Outfit-wise, this crop top plus white bloomers design made performing difficult poses extremely convenient while maintaining accuracy and aesthetic appeal. The large golden emblem with a green gemstone on the chest, along with waist tassels and golden arm guards, tried every detail to match character settings in Fate/Grand Order. Although May Day holiday weather was getting somewhat warm, shuttling around the venue and posing in full gear all day to deliver the best Convention photos was exhausting yet thoroughly worthwhile.

The convention shoot process was also delightful. Special thanks to photographer NightDiva. Outdoors under natural daylight, paired with black and red spliced floor mats, created a relaxed, casual convention atmosphere full of lively human bustle. Come nighttime, we moved to a venue with stronger light contrast: when high-power strip fill lights lit up behind, the background turned dark, creating a low-key, sophisticated studio texture. That clean dark-toned backdrop highlighted character and costume details, especially releasing an intense fox spirit aura under strong rim-backlighting.

In pose design, I also attempted breakthroughs. For instance, a challenging backbend split pose was done specifically to reflect Tamamo no Mae's "capable" and nimble traits in Fate/Grand Order. Though doing this on mats tested flexibility, I portrayed it naturally to restore that ease. There was also a close-up holding the mirror near my cheek; to capture that playful, cute charm, I adjusted my gaze and smile, catching the unique spirit of a charming little fox spirit.

For makeup, I picked golden-brown contact lenses to pair with the pink wig, lengthening eyeliner slightly for a lively yet bewitching eye shape. Lip makeup chose shades echoing the pink hair, striving for a clean and charming face.

Day 1 of Firefly ACG Expo during May Day holiday saw massive crowds with incredible cosplayers everywhere—the unique charm of anime conventions. Recording my portrayal of Tamamo no Mae cosplay in such an environment was a deeply meaningful experience. Every location shoot, from costume prep to prop making and final shooting, deepens my understanding of the character. Sculpting this little fox brought me joy, and I hope these captured images genuinely convey her brilliance.
