[Keqing Cosplay] Genshin Impact Qipao Outfit Record at Firefly ACG Expo

The crowd at Firefly ACG Expo certainly didn't disappoint; finding a completely clear spot in the bustling venue was extremely challenging. As photographer Mo Qiufeng noted, due to the dense crowd in the background, we had almost no chance to capture full-body standing wide shots. We could only utilize a few open spaces outside the venue, seizing brief gaps in the crowd to shoot several half-body and medium close-up perspectives—doing our best to document the moment amidst the crowded convention.

For this Keqing cosplay Qipao outfit look, my biggest consideration during prep was how to merge the sharp, heroic traits of the original anime character with the soft yet dignified elements of a Chinese Qipao. The wig selected was a light greyish-blue long wavy wig, styled into rounded, dimensional bun hair buns on both sides of the crown. To match the lightweight nature of the attire, white flowers and matching ribbons were added as accents, offering layered depth without feeling overly heavy.

The main garment features a classic high-collar design with traditional frog closures. Dark blue cord knots and a hanging purple tassel at the neck add an exquisite touch of traditional elegance to the upper body. A white sweetheart neckline overlay with dark blue crescent-like subtle patterns was spliced at the chest, forming a beautiful contrast against the dark blue outer garment. I particularly loved the detached deep indigo opera gloves; while slightly inconvenient in convention crowds, the delicate white lace trim along the edges added a playful, maiden-like charm to otherwise plain gloves.

The lower garment structure is slightly more complex, featuring a light blue pleated miniskirt spliced over the dark blue base, where the white lace hem echoes the lace edging of the gloves in visual symmetry. My favorite part of the entire look was the Stockings styling on the legs. The semi-sheer taupe stockings subtly revealed natural skin texture under ambient light, while the white diamond geometric pattern on the right calf served as a distinct asymmetrical design detail that created a striking visual memory in photos. On the feet were glossy black patent leather double-strap chunky heel Mary Jane shoes, whose reflective sheen significantly brightened the dark-toned ensemble.

Due to limited space, photographer Mo Qiufeng relied on glass curtain walls and architectural reflections to find shooting angles, making pose control crucial. To match the fluid silhouette of the Qipao, movements were kept subtle to maintain upper-body openness and smooth leg lines. The biggest difference between outdoor location shoots and conventions is that you never know how many passersby will walk behind the lens next; capturing these clean shots during brief seconds of opportunity was made possible by photographer Mo Qiufeng's patience and flexibility.

Every cosplay feels like a deep dialogue with the character. The modified Qipao design allowed me to preserve key character elements while imbuing her with a distinct, refined demeanor. Although we missed out on full-body wide shots, these medium close-ups and detail shots brought out the fabric textures, wig craftsmanship, and intricate accessories even more clearly. I hope to have more opportunities for such thoughtful styling and photography in the future to express favorite characters through unique design interpretations.
