Taking advantage of the blooming season between late spring and early summer, I worked with Master Wansheng on this Jeanne d'Arc Alter Lily outdoor shoot. Preparations for the wig and makeup began early in the morning; pairing white hair with silver head ornaments required plenty of hairspray and bobby pins to keep everything securely in place without revealing the wig cap during side-profile and downward-looking shots.
The pink-toned kimono accented with a white fur collar and red ribbons stood out brilliantly against the sea of green and yellow flowers, though the fur trim around the neckline felt rather warm in this weather. To bring out the visual dynamism of the costume, I had to deliberately swing the wide sleeves while walking outdoors. The black over-the-knee socks and dark brown platform shoes on my feet elongated my leg proportions; navigating the uneven grass was tricky, requiring constant awareness of my footing to avoid stepping into mud or tearing the Black stockings cosplay on wild branches.
Master Wansheng used a wide-aperture lens this time, rendering the yellow foreground blossoms into a beautifully soft bokeh while centering the subject cleanly within the frame. To complement this depth of field, I alternated between crouching, sitting, and standing poses among the flowers. For instance, when holding the oil-paper umbrella, I had to carefully manage arm height and umbrella tilt so the filtered light fell gently across my face. When shooting seated poses, to showcase the leg lines contoured by the black over-the-knee socks, I shifted my center of gravity slightly back, crossing or angling my legs naturally while using the folding fan to conceal creases around the jacket waist.
The overall styling carries an elegant poise on top, while the black stockings and platform shoes below introduce a contrasting charm. To capture the wind catching the flutter of the kimono hem, we repeated the motion across several takes. As the afternoon light shifted rapidly, Master Wansheng adjusted the flash fill-light to ensure the red eyeshadow of the makeup remained crisp. This shoot blended the character's vivid spirit with the spring atmosphere seamlessly, resulting in a smooth, highly professional photoshoot experience.
