Dropping this riverside Night view cosplay set of Arihara Nanami as the hacker girl on 07/21. To capture the distinct mood of this character from RIDDLE JOKER, we specifically chose a riverside setting after dark. The black-and-red military-style dress accompanied by a mini capelet featured substantial, structured fabric that held a wonderfully crisp silhouette when worn. For the gold-embroidered red sash and four-pointed star crest on the chest, the costumer and I cross-referenced proportions multiple times against the original artwork to ensure they wouldn't look flat on camera. For the wig, blunt bangs and golden twintails were the soul of the look—especially the left-side braid tied with a red ribbon. The stylist spent considerable effort sculpting its curves and volume to keep it airy and prevent the riverside evening breeze from messing up the silhouette.
The black tablet in hand was an essential storytelling prop. Embodying the identity of a genius hacker girl, perching on the stone balustrade along the river with the tablet while city neon blurred into soft bokeh behind me instantly melded techwear aesthetics with slice-of-life realism. Photographer ZeZeShark was highly experienced with night lighting, using front fill lights to bring out shadow details in the costume and facial makeup while preserving the rich, atmospheric nightscape in the backdrop, giving the frame exquisite depth.
Wind along the river was quite strong that night; we reset takes over and over to catch the twintails swaying naturally. Ambient temperatures dipped, and despite wearing black tights, sitting atop the freezing stone ledge for extended periods made my legs numb. However, the final shots turned out breathtaking: the harmony of black tights and black leather shoes visually lengthened the leg lines while infusing a cool, cybernetic elegance. The crisp white gloves popped vividly under the fill lights, creating a sharp color contrast against the all-black ensemble.
Arihara Nanami is sharp, fiercely independent, and subtly mischievous. For facial expressions, I kept things understated, relying primarily on shifting gazes and a relaxed seated posture to convey her composure as an elite hacker. From hair and makeup to the final photo selection, every finished image was the result of burning the midnight oil. Night shoots always leave you sore all over while braving mosquito bites, but seeing that calm, detached girl standing beneath the neon haze in the final photos makes every bit of toil worthwhile. This set spent quite some time in preparation, and sorting it all out today feels like a deeply sincere tribute to this character.
