This time, I’m sharing a cosplay showcase of Hayase Yuuka from Blue Archive. Recreating the character in a classroom setting is itself an experience that brings us closer to daily life. In this scene, the iconic halo and deep purple twin-tails are core elements, which, together with the classic sailor suit style and light blue ribbon bow, instantly connect the image with the character.
For the wig, I chose a deep purple long wig, keeping the texture as close as possible to Yuuka's signature thick twin-tails. The bangs were trimmed slightly longer to better frame the face and cover a portion of the forehead, creating a gentle yet intelligent atmosphere suited to the character. The halo prop on top of the head is the soul of the entire look; with embedded cool LED lights, its edges emit a subtle blue glow, which not only faithfully restores the in-game setting but also serves as a visual focus within the warm-toned classroom environment.
For the outfit, I opted for a classic short sailor-collar top. The dark blue stripes on the collar and cuffs add depth to the uniform, while the soft, light blue ribbon on the chest enhances the 2D anime aesthetic. For the bottom, it's paired with dark blue safety shorts, and the black pantyhose—acting as the visual center of gravity—serve to elongate the leg line. The black pantyhose create a slim visual effect, which, together with the dark shorts, reveals a slightly mature side of Yuuka beyond her pure schoolgirl image, making the overall look sleek and slender while retaining vitality.
Now let's talk about the classroom location used for the shoot. The blackboard in this venue has a wonderful sense of nostalgia, with chalk handwriting and erased marks left on it. The dark wood desks and chairs are neatly arranged, and the wooden floor shows a warm color tone under the lighting. This type of classroom setting perfectly matches the daily campus vibe of Blue Archive. Details like the writing on the board and books scattered on the desk corners create an immersive feeling of a real learning environment. Shooting in such a space helps bring Yuuka's character to life even more dynamically.
Regarding makeup, I chose eye shapes and lip colors similar to the in-game 3D model, paired with bright blue contact lenses to recreate the character's deep gaze. To fit Hayase Yuuka's character profile, on top of a clean base makeup, the focus was placed on making the eyes look expressive and gentle. This way, even from a high-angle shot looking slightly down, the eyes can convey that top-student vibe effectively.
Posing during the shoot was also carefully considered. The final cover photo features a pose sitting on the desk with one leg resting up, one hand supporting naturally on the desk, and the body leaning slightly forward to look directly into the camera. This pose effectively displays the details of the upper-body uniform and ribbon, while smoothly highlighting the lines of the legs wrapped in pantyhose. The overall composition forms a stable triangle structure with a concentrated visual center. Another set of poses with curled legs feels more relaxed and light, which, combined with resting the chin on hands, adds a playful touch that aligns well with Yuuka's personality—serious yet lively.
In terms of lighting, the photographer used soft diffuse light to avoid harsh shadows in the classroom environment, allowing for very natural transitions between light and shadow on the face. The background bokeh subtly emphasizes the subject without letting cluttered classroom details steal the spotlight. Post-processing focused on maintaining authentic skin textures, while white highlights on the clothing and reflections on the black pantyhose were handled restrainedly, aiming for a realistic, natural, and clear image texture.
Looking back at this photoshoot, the main goal was to present Hayase Yuuka's campus feeling from Blue Archive to the fullest through atmospheric ambiance and detailed costume styling. For cosplay, beyond recreating physical appearance, finding the right state of mind for the character in a specific context is key. In an everyday classroom scene, Yuuka shouldn't look like a stiff mannequin, but rather embody a relaxed state as if enjoying an actual class break. I hope these photos convey my interpretation of the character and share the unique campus vibe of Blue Archive with everyone.
