[Hayase Yuuka cosplay] Blue Archive Chinese Courtyard Cheongsam cosplay and Barefoot Moments

This photo set was shot inside a traditional Chinese courtyard. Wearing this black-based modified cheongsam with blue trim alongside the iconic floating halo indeed set high demands for the location. This was not a simple studio shoot, but required organic interaction between the environment and the character in our Outdoor photography endeavor.

Let's talk about the costume details. The top features a high-collar cheongsam cut tailored into a sleeveless silhouette, beautifully highlighting arm lines. The primary black tone paired with bright blue piping creates crisp color dimensions. The yellow flower on the left shoulder and the white employee ID badge on the chest are crowning touches. The ID badge is styled hanging from a silver metallic chain; to achieve a natural draping effect, we adjusted the clasp position multiple times before shooting to ensure it neither tilted nor stuck out in frontal shots.

Regarding preparations on the day of the shoot: for hair, the blue-violet twin-tail wig featured a smooth gradient with defined layering at the ends. The floating halo above my head was the visual focal point of this look. Since we shot outdoors, to keep the physical halo stable on camera, we chose lightweight materials and concealed a low-reflective connecting wire, ensuring a realistic floating effect without needing heavy post-production retouching.

The most physically demanding part was posing atop this mottled gray-and-white stone wall. Because the wall surface was very rough with rather sharp stone edges, wearing shoes on the uneven mortar joints initially made it easy to lose balance. To achieve better compositions—especially in poses like Photos 1 and 2 where legs naturally extended or slightly curled—taking off my shoes allowed me to 'grip' the stone blocks much better. Sitting barefoot on the stone required not only balance but also getting used to the chilly touch; I even scraped my feet a bit during the process, but seeing the resulting frames made it all worthwhile.

I really love the sleeve design of this outfit. The half-slipped white wide-sleeved jacket, lined with royal blue trim, not only reveals the mini cheongsam underneath but also crafts a relaxed, languid demeanor. In the photos, I deliberately let the jacket slip off slightly to give the frame breathing room, preventing the black-and-blue uniform palette from feeling overly stiff in this Cheongsam cosplay.

Working with photographer @饼📷, we did extensive prep work beforehand. When directing poses, the photographer emphasized 'quiet stillness' to match the rustic Chinese surroundings and the character's temperament. During shooting, we tried formal seated poses facing forward, glancing back over the shoulder, and gazing into the distance. I rarely used exaggerated facial expressions in this set, relying instead on gaze and subtle micro-movements to convey serene tranquility.

To complement the outdoor natural light, the photographer used a wide aperture to softly blur the wooden lattice windows and flying eaves with gray tiles in the background. This interplay of light and shadow allowed the translucent skin tones to resonate harmoniously with the black-and-blue outfit. Without using heavy filters, the color palette leaned natural and realistic, clearly showcasing the fabric textures and character makeup details in this 2D daily life moment.

A fun little interlude: halfway through the shoot, I noticed the soles of my feet got a bit dirty from stepping on the stone for so long, but it actually added a touch of authenticity to the images. So in subsequent shots, I didn't deliberately conceal it, presenting the barefoot state naturally. The high heels placed at the base of the wall in Photos 1 and 2 also hinted at this transition from 'formal' to 'relaxed,' adding subtle narrative continuity to the series.

The cheongsam has always been a traditional garment that demands great posture, but this design modified under anime culture accentuates the character's agility and sharp elegance. I thoroughly enjoy the creative process of bringing game characters into real-world environments for Hayase Yuuka cosplay. Rather than chasing flashy extravagance, it's about capturing that unique harmony between character essence and surroundings. Today's outdoor shoot was immensely fulfilling—from full hair, makeup, and wardrobe styling, to repeated adjustments on the stone wall, to the final shutter clicks capturing the character's most natural state. The entire journey gave me a richer, multifaceted understanding of this black-and-blue cheongsam look in Blue Archive.
