When shooting this Takanashi Hoshino cosplay set, I channeled almost all the "sleepiness" in my body into the performance.
Although Hoshino-chan in the original work is a character with a huge contrast—her usual lazy, sleepy appearance is just her disguise—in order to embody a daily relatable vibe very similar to an early morning commuter, I completely relaxed myself during the shoot, pushing the instinctual response of "nemui dai" (so sleepy) to the absolute limit. This time, I chose a highly casual home-style look. With pink twin tails paired with fluffy cat ears, plus a symbolic white collar and bell, and that red cat paw print, my entire posture felt as light as a feather.
Sitting on the soft, large white bed, sunlight streamed in through the sheer curtains by the window, making the indoor light highly soft. The photographer, Hongbai-laoshi, perfectly captured those moments when I hadn't fully woken up, stretching out and reaching my hands toward the lens begging for a hug. The off-the-shoulder style of the white sweatshirt beautifully revealed the neck and collarbone lines. Paired with cat ears and a tail, it preserved the character's traits while bringing in a lazy feeling that only belongs to waking up naturally on weekends.
Honestly, shooting this kind of casual, home-style photoshoot tests expressiveness even more than shooting combat actions in a studio. Because you need to completely immerse yourself in that scenario of "not wanting to get out of bed, just wanting to lie flat." During the shoot, I was also hugging that huge cushion, feeling as if my whole body's defenses were lowered. This lightweight, bright, and healing white-and-pink Cute girl cosplay style is also the tone I prefer to settle on with the photographer during early communications. When I got tired of shooting, I just lay on the bed to rest; even if the wig went askew, there was no rush to adjust it, which actually made it closer to the character's natural laziness.
The photographer's lens captured the moments very accurately, especially that photo of stretching out my arms. Paired with the soft background, it really looked just like a kitty begging for a hug. When doing Anime cosplay, being able to record such defenseless moments feels much more precious than simply striking "帅气" (cool) poses. I hope everyone can feel this "sleepy and soft" atmosphere as well; after all, nothing is more comfortable than wearing loose clothes at home and lazily stretching while watching the sunlight slowly stream outside the window.
