Putting on this "Picnic Before Departing" outfit of Eyjafjalla the Hvít Aska, my entire mood becomes relaxed and joyful.
The design concept of this skin itself is about being close to nature and enjoying a leisurely time. When trying it on and adjusting the details, I always hoped to replicate this vacation vibe in my photoshoot.
The headpiece is one of the main highlights. Eyjafjalla's iconic sheep horns are well-recreated with a plush texture. Paired with her brown hair and the pink highlights on both sides, it makes the character look exceptionally cute. The support of the bow and headpiece is just right, maintaining a great shape even with occasional movements during selfies. The blue and white checkered skirt is the core of the entire outfit; the fabric reflects a delicate luster under the light, and I'm especially satisfied with the puffiness of the hem. The deep blue cinched waist visually elongates the proportions, and combined with the white ruffled apron, it creates a wonderful summer manor girl vibe. I also really like the design of the sleeves; the off-the-shoulder cut combined with the lace decoration at the wrists balances physical comfort with exquisite styling.
The matching white tights and the blue puff straps at the ankles are the finishing touches of the overall look, breaking the conventional monotony and extending the blue-and-white color language. When taking this set of photos, I tried compositions of sitting, standing, and sitting on the floor respectively. To capture that slightly expectant yet calm demeanor "before departing," I made some trade-offs regarding the interaction between the lens and the costume.
With limited indoor lighting, avoiding the loss of clothing details due to uneven light was also a difficult point in this shoot. I used the macro and portrait functions of my phone to ensure that the texture of the fabric and the bow on top of my head were realistically recorded. As a character in Arknights who balances academic expertise with approachability, Eyjafjalla in her Hvít Aska form showcases not only cuteness but also a calm, steady gentleness. Therefore, in terms of emotional expression, I leaned more towards being soft and natural, attempting to soften the atmosphere both inside and outside the frame.
Doing dynamic candid shots while wearing this outfit is actually more testing of the costume's stability than imagined, but fortunately, the upper body tailoring of the entire dress fits very well. When trying different camera angles, I found that low-angle shooting can better showcase the layers of the skirt and its overall flow, while high-angle top-down shots can more clearly present the details of the headpiece and upper body. Combining this type of more daily-oriented cosplay, the focus is more on the integration of the character with the real environment during this 2D daily life representation. Without complex external special effects, just the indoor wooden floor and white walls, paired with this bright blue and white outfit, instead highlights the character's own aura during this Arknights cosplay session. For players who love Arknights, seeing a character objectified in the 3D world is a very meaningful thing. Throughout the entire preparation process, meticulously grooming every strand of hair and ensuring the styling is perfectly neat is also a reflection of sincere love for the character.
