[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive Traditional Chinese Style Styling: Gentle Collision of Blue-and-White Dress and White Stockings

For this Traditional Chinese style cosplay derivative shoot of Takanashi Hoshino (Takanashi Hoshino cosplay) from Blue Archive, the preliminary styling prep required considerable effort. Wig styling was step one: the long pink hair had to be brushed smooth, and the two looped hair buns on top, accented with fluffy pom-poms, needed countless bobby pins and strong setting spray to hold their round, dimensional shape during studio movement. The elongated pink hair ornaments on the sides also had to be angled carefully to avoid clashing with the facial contours. For makeup, matching the character's temperament meant wearing bright blue contact lenses, sweeping a generous wash of pink tones across the eyelids with subtle deepening at the outer corners, and blending vibrant blush to give the face a youthful, lively look on camera.

The outfit was a modified classical dress in a blue-and-white color palette. The top preserved the crossed-collar neckline and wide flowing sleeves, crafted from soft cyan fabric detailed with delicate white floral patterns that created rich visual layering. The bottom was a crisp white miniskirt with blue edge piping, tailored to beautifully flatter the leg lines. A wide pink sash cinched the waist, adorned with blue braided cords and cascading tassels. To keep these intricate waistbands and knots secure, multiple hidden snaps were stitched inside while exterior safety pins ensured the fabric stayed smooth during movement. The lower body was paired with White stockings reaching over the knee, perfectly echoing the blue-and-white color scheme.

The shoot took place in an indoor studio featuring dark wood openwork screens with a white circular backdrop board in the center. The seating area was draped with sheer white tulle curtains, with pink flowering branches cascading from above. In the second frame, a wooden bookshelf to the right displayed blue-covered classical texts, accompanied by a vase with pink-and-white blooms, a Chinese lantern casting a warm golden glow, and calligraphic wall hangings, establishing a deeply poetic and dreamy setting.

For props, I held a round fan with a dark frame, adorned with painted birds and flowers and a long green tassel trailing from the handle. When posing, the wrist holding the round fan had to stay relaxed, allowing the surface to tilt naturally without obscuring facial features. The other hand rested gently on the knee or softly brushed the hair accessories, adding fluid grace. Beside the seat, a small hexagonal wooden lantern served as an elegant decorative prop.

Since this is a derivative Anime cosplay concept for Takanashi Hoshino, I stayed true to her characteristically languid, playful charm in both demeanor and expressions. While seated, I explored several postures—extending my legs naturally as seen in the first shot, or crossing them as in the second frame to best showcase the lines of the White stockings and skirt slit. The third shot captures an over-the-shoulder glance that visually elongates the silhouette. The photographer employed softboxes to simulate natural diffuse lighting, eliminating harsh glare or heavy shadows across the fabric. I had to mind the skirt's spread and calibrate my balance to prevent unflattering creases. Maintaining ongoing communication with the photographer regarding lighting and angles paid off completely—seeing the resulting color and shadow texture made all the meticulous preparation worthwhile.
