[Gothic Style Cosplay] Snowy Night First Shoot of a Cyber Assassin Battle Girl

"Tearing down mountains and temples, even the gods shall bow before me~" For our very first set of photos welcoming the New Year, we chose the solemn and mysterious Wangfujing Cathedral. When elements like a snowy night, historical architecture, and warm ambient light came together, I knew this would become a visually striking work.

Honestly, the concept for this styling had been brewing for a long time. The outfit I'm wearing comes from Chenwu & Ying's "Physical Exorcism" series. From the moment I saw that series name, imagery of a combat scene on a snowy night was instantly triggered in my mind. Dominated by black, the outfit features a highly recognizable black-and-white color-blocked hooded cape design, giving off a strong visual fusion of a cyber assassin and a battle nun at first glance. The high-slit design on the lower half breaks the monotony of a long black dress while allowing for expansive, dynamic combat poses in the snow. Paired with black high-heeled lace-up boots from Classic Puppets, the silhouette was elongated, instantly boosting the overall presence and aura.

To align with the overall vibe of this outfit, we did plenty of prep work on hair, makeup, and accessories. The hair was styled with a dark base and emerald green highlights, which served as a crucial visual anchor that echoed perfectly with the fluorescent green lenses of the cyber goggles. When taking off the goggles, a subtle touch of red on my lips against the falling snowflakes conjured a cold, ruthless tone; putting the goggles back on instantly shifted the atmosphere into a full cyber battle nun mode. Standing against the cathedral backdrop, the vintage Gothic stone architecture paired with cyber-style accessories generated an intense sense of temporal dislocation—a striking collision between classical history and modern reality, mystery and technology.

Temperature on the day of the shoot was extremely low, with a thick layer of snow on the ground and cold wind howling in gusts. To achieve the absolute best visual quality, photographers light breeze Gangzi, 32F Xiaoxiao Sheying, and Zhao Zhixin wore light coats while constantly seeking angles around Wangfujing Cathedral. We circled the building across multiple camera positions. Aside from standard full-body standing poses, everyone particularly loved the crouched stance gripping the hilt in a forward sprint—the close-up perspective exaggerated the sharpness of the blade and brought out intense dynamic tension. The prop was a beautifully textured, slender straight blade; holding the cold metal hilt turned my hands stiff, but freezing those sword-slashing and sheathing movements in frame made the resulting shots immensely rewarding.

The greatest charm of shooting on a snowy night lies in these strong contrast elements: the cold, rigid lines of Gothic architecture, the warm golden glow of the cathedral, the purity of white snow, combined with my monochrome outfit and the sharpness of the slender weapon. Bringing these together perfectly expressed the cool, resolute, independent combat spirit of "tearing down mountains and temples, bowing before no gods." Furthermore, the genuine atmosphere created by real outdoor snow falling was far more vivid than studio snow machines. The motion of snowflakes brushing against hair, cape, and lens gave the entire set a cinematic level of immersion for this snow portrait.

Executing a shoot with such heavy combat vibes and Gothic style cosplay is physically demanding. Maintaining an erect posture in sub-zero temperatures while keeping hands steady on a cold prop blade tests willpower to the limit. Yet this is precisely why we persevere: when seeing the visions and concepts in your head come alive as tangible visual art through collective effort and heartfelt creation, all the freezing cold and hardship become completely worth it.
