This Psychologist's The Long Night photoshoot had relatively strict requirements set before the shooting, with the overall visual keynote combining dark Gothic and gorgeous retro styles. To present the unique cool elegance of this skin, a lot of thought was put into the makeup and hair, especially the long silver-white wig, which needed to be styled with a fluffy and slightly curled layered texture. The black cross star and detailed embellishments under the eyes, paired with purple-blue contact lenses, allow people to instantly feel that mysterious personality tension carrying a hint of melancholy.
On the day of the shoot, it was lensed by photographer @BoLuoChuiMao, choosing Shikongshe as the shooting venue. The backdrop was arranged with a large area of bright red fabric and heavy black folds, alongside a black wooden crucifix, a retro golden frame, and skull props, making the entire environmental atmosphere perfectly fit the character's identity setting. While trying different camera angles, I held a white skull prop, coordinated with black lace gloves and a red rose decoration at the collarbone, attempting to showcase the grimness and silence before the descent of the long night amidst intense color contrasts. The addition of that gold-rimmed picture frame was also very interesting, acting as if it broke the fourth wall, creating an illusion of being sealed inside a picture frame.
Regarding the material selection of the costume, the black glossy midi skirt paired with long black lace gloves, along with the complex crown-like headpiece and tassels on the head, gave an overall texture that could anchor such a profound theme. When posing, I needed to overcome the weight of the headpiece while also grasping the right expression—neither looking too fierce nor failing to preserve the character's serene coolness within an absurd situation. That day, we shot quite a few frames lying on the ground, where the fishnet stockings interwoven with the flowing white hair, combined with scattered red artificial petals, made the overall atmospheric feel perfectly on point.
As a formal production of Cosplay photography, we not only strove to restore accuracy in costumes, makeup, props, and hair styling, but also hoped to capture that core of perseverance within the Psychologist's setting. Though the long night is cold, dawn will eventually arrive. This set of works is both a respect for the character's style and a small breakthrough for my own cosplay techniques. I hope to have opportunities to shoot more delicate and textured photos under the same theme in the future, continuing to extend this unique dark aesthetic.
