Presenting my Changli Cosplay photoshoot captured live at the CICF Expo. Preparation on the day was quite elaborate: the curled ends of the pink wig easily lost shape due to humidity, requiring extensive combing and setting. The costume design is richly layered—the crisp, structured white dress paired with black outer sleeves and white underlayers provided substantial presence without feeling bulky. The black choker around the neck and the front red tassel ribbons had to be meticulously aligned so they wouldn't tilt on camera.
Regarding the black stockings and high heels: standing on hard convention floors for hours caused noticeable foot fatigue, but maintaining an upright, elongated posture was crucial to keep lines sharp. The over-the-shoulder look in Photo 2 demanded strong core control to twist into a natural S-curve while allowing the long red coat-tails and ribbons to flutter gracefully—thankfully, the convention center's AC airflow helped immensely.
The biggest challenge at conventions is navigating heavy crowd traffic and avoiding photobombers. Collaborating closely with the photographer, we located relatively clear spots and utilized overhead spotlights as key lighting, which kept facial contours soft while sculpting crisp garment silhouettes. For the shots enhanced with red flame effects, post-processing darkened the background convention hall to make the crimson energy streaks pop with vivid intensity.
My favorite aspect of portraying Changli was the precision of the details: the subtle patterns woven into the red cloak fabric and the tactile metallic finish on the charms. Being recognized by fellow fans at the venue and discussing fabric choices and flattering angles was truly delightful. Despite physical fatigue, the dynamic poses and post-production VFX brought her commanding presence to life. Navigating carefully to prevent the delicate black stockings from snagging on railings, this CICF Expo Cosplay photography session was a seamless, memorable success.
