On an outdoor lawn in the dead of night, our Night portrait shoot for Cartethyia Cosplay from Wuthering Waves (Role-playing game) officially kicked off. The core of this styling lies in the star ring crown and the glowing sword weapon. To faithfully capture Cartethyia's commanding temperament, I did extensive homework on the wig. Because we were shooting at night, I specifically highlighted the gradient wig with pale blue and gold tones so that distinct layering would emerge under camera flashes. Assembling the headpiece was extraordinarily time-consuming: the blue thorned halo and the golden needle dead-center had to be secured onto the hairnet piece by piece with hot glue, balancing structural sturdiness while ensuring it wouldn't scratch my face during shooting. Given the headpiece's noticeable weight, I had to pay close attention to bodily balance, avoiding sharp head turns that might cause it to dislodge.
Regarding the costume, the gradient skirt transitioning from blue and white to black and the golden embroidery details are remarkably faithful. The skirt features a high-slit cut; paired with clear platform high heels, it not only elongated leg lines, but also gave me better footing on the turf. The gloves and bracers were made of rather stiff material, causing a bit of restricted movement when posing, but as long as they conveyed the fierce sharpness of a battle-ready warrior in this Anime cosplay, that was a small price to pay.
The most arduous part was the nighttime shooting conditions. To accentuate the chilly blue illumination of the glowing sword, the photographer set up multiple fill lights in the dark environment. We utilized feather props paired with a fan to generate the dynamic visual of falling plumage. Holding the sword, I adjusted countless angles to ensure the light kissed my face just right without unwanted flare breaking the visual balance. When posing on the black folding stool, I had to keep my spine tall and core firmly braced at all times to project a self-assured, bold poise. The transparent heels slipped slightly on the black plush rug, but after several takes, I finally locked into the ideal angle, allowing the photographer to capture the perfect moment.
As a cosplayer, every night shoot is a trial of stamina and focus. From hair, makeup, and prop crafting to on-site lighting adjustments, every single link relies on seamless teamwork. I never want to simply showcase a garment; rather, through gaze, posture, and an understanding of chiaroscuro, I strive to transmit the character's mystery and power in the night to everyone before the screen. For makeup, to align with her austere aura, I wore blue colored contacts and intensified red blending at the outer corners of my eyes, giving my gaze greater depth under nocturnal strobes. A high-coverage foundation was applied to withstand intense nighttime key lights, with contouring focused on the jawline to enhance facial three-dimensionality.
During the shoot, controlling the drift of feathers in the wind was tricky; we tried numerous times before the feathers landed precisely around the lens bokeh. The gradient skirt hem fluttered organically in the nighttime breeze, which, combined with the motion blur of the glowing sword, created a palpable tension of imminent battle. I slowed down my movements to let the trajectory of the skirt drape smoothly. Achieving such a clean, profound ambiance owes everything to the photographer's meticulous location scouting and lighting design. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this Cartethyia Cosplay interpretation!
