[Mashiro cosplay] Blue Archive: Guangzhou Firefly D2 Convention Photos

The convention photos from Day 2 of the 36th Guangzhou Firefly convention are finally out, featuring Mashiro from Blue Archive. The overall styling centers on a black-and-red color scheme, complemented by her iconic giant anti-materiel sniper rifle prop. Whether outside the exhibition hall or near the green belt, the visual presentation feels very solid. Regarding the details of this outfit, the short black sailor top is paired with a signature red bow and sailor collar, along with a matching red armband and black fingerless gloves, keeping it simple yet full of impact. The red halo prop took a lot of thought in its design; to recreate the floating effect above the head, the bracket used a hidden treatment, making it completely invisible from almost all front-facing shooting angles. The dark grey wing accessories on the back also add dimensional depth to the character.

What left the deepest impression when cosplaying Mashiro was this giant long gun prop. Although the materials were made as lightweight as possible, holding it and standing continuously for hours in a crowded convention center while cooperating with the photographer for various standing, leaning, and sitting poses was truly a test of arm strength and core stability. Fortunately, when propping it up for photos, the overwhelming visual scale brought a strong anime-style tension. The lower half features small black leather shoes with red trim paired with black over-the-knee socks, and the black leg strap elements extending from the sock cuffs nicely refined the leg lines while carrying the black-and-red palette from top to bottom.

The shooting environment for these convention photos felt quite down-to-earth. The roadside hedge, gray curb stones, and parking lot gates in the distance formed a very lifestyle-oriented background. I really like the atmosphere of convention photos under natural light—no overly fancy lighting required, just soft outdoor light to restore the matte texture of the costume itself. The photographer, Eighth Root, nailed the composition precisely. Whether having me lean against a wall or sit on the steps, they skillfully utilized the long lines of the prop and the curves of the body to create a visual echo, preventing the oversized weapon from looking unbalanced in the frame. Passersby during the shoot expressed amazement at the prop's size, which fits right in with the interactive experience of characters with large equipment at conventions.

The whole process was quite relaxing without forcing too many complicated poses, focusing mainly on recreating the character's calm and slightly aloof aura. The short black hair and purplish-blue colored contacts paired with a fair base makeup, along with the black-and-red uniform, created a striking yet soft color contrast amidst the outdoor greenery. The rifle stock and barrel retained a clear red lacquer reflection under natural light without blowing out the highlights, which is rare. Although Day 2 of the convention was bustling, taking time to capture this set of photos in a quiet corner left wonderful memories of this Firefly trip.

Black-and-red outfits carry high recognition in both daily and convention settings, and characters wielding large ranged weapons can evoke a strong sense of narrative when posing and handling prop angles carefully. Looking back at these photos, I can feel the tacit synergy between the photographer and me outdoors, bringing a 2D character setting into reality—which is the true charm of convention photos.
