Around 2 or 3 PM on Saturday outside Firefly, the sunlight should be just enough. The outfit I received this time is Takanashi Hoshino's casual style, and I plan to look for TFP (mutual collaboration) at comic convention off-site photography, strolling around a couple of times to capture the afternoon natural light and shadow in the lens.
Let me share the styling concept for this look. To fit the casual vibe, the look didn't go for complex heavy armor, but instead used a pink long-ponytail wig paired with a bright yellow bucket hat as the visual highlight of the upper body. The top is a light blue short-sleeved shirt with a white rounded turn-down collar and several milky-white buttons, featuring a tiny cartoon badge patch on the left chest, giving an overall refreshing and slightly childlike feeling. The bottom is paired with a dark blue pleated skirt, combined with white knee-high socks, and a pair of red-and-white Mary Jane leather shoes on the feet. This color combination is primarily based on blue, white, yellow, and red, which is both layered and very clean, making it highly photogenic for off-site photography natural light shoots.
Since the plan is to stroll and shoot off-site without entering the exhibition halls, the focus is entirely on leveraging the ambient natural light. Although the sun will be quite high around 2 or 3 PM, if the light is utilized properly, it can yield a very beautiful three-dimensional feel. I'm thinking of picking some walkways with tree shade or sheltered areas around the venue to capture the natural state of walking using dappled light and shadows. That texture of sunlight spilling onto the clothes and hair will be much more atmospheric than the harsh artificial lighting of studio shoots. Therefore, what I want to shoot this time is definitely not heavily staged, standing-still photos, but rather event venue photos that are more lifestyle-oriented and have room to breathe.
In addition to static photos, I am also considering recording videos this time. Since the co-creation permission can be enabled over on Douyin, if I encounter the right photographer friend, we can completely shoot video footage together. Whether it's a simple turn-around beat sync or the kind of transition walking slowly under the sun, the frame presented with this outfit should look quite comfortable. This way, the materials and assets for post-processing will be much richer.
Since it is a strolling-style shoot off-site, there are also requirements for the flexibility of the costume. This outfit isn't very tight-fitting; whether bending over, turning sideways, or walking a few steps faster, there won't be any sense of constraint. The swaying of the pink twin-tails and the shadow of the hat brim under the sun are both excellent bonus points in dynamic shots. I lean towards completing this creation in a relaxed state without intentionally forcing any poses, just following the flow of the crowd and the sunlight outside the venue, stopping to press the shutter a few times whenever we come across a nice corner.
Overall, the plan is to meet up outside the venue around 2 PM on Saturday to look for a few spots with bright light or shifting light and shadow for the shoot. The uncontrollable lighting setup of natural light is actually the most vivid; as long as the ambient light looks pleasing and is matched with proper camera coordination, the final photos can be highly natural. This casual look is also suited for this kind of more spontaneous environment. Once the light is in place on Saturday afternoon, we'll be ready to get to work.
