This shoot features an original police uniform concept for Sunohara Kokona from Blue Archive. Centered on the theme "A Police Officer and an Instructor," I wanted to showcase her decisive execution and professional crispness alongside her innate cute charm.
For the overall outfit design, a light blue short-sleeved shirt was paired with a dark tie, dark blue pleated skirt, black over-the-knee socks, and brown leather shoes. This classic uniform ensemble effectively shapes a lively yet slightly authoritative persona for this Animal-eared girl. A dark blue police cap and a shield-shaped arm badge on the left arm reinforce her officer identity. Long straight silver-white hair paired with fluffy white animal ears adds cute softness, while black ribbon hair bows on the side prevent the look from feeling plain. Handcuffs served as the core prop—whether held toward the camera or raised while posing with one hand on her hip, they add narrative intrigue and interactive flair to the frame.
To fit an officer's night duty atmosphere, we selected an urban night location featuring metallic pillars and glass railings. Commercial street lights blurred by a wide-aperture lens created rich bokeh that made the subject pop. Photographer Arsenal's Little Martin was exceptionally professional, using cool-toned key lighting on the subject's face to create a brilliant cool-versus-warm contrast against the background's warm ambient light spots.
As for the colorful glowing halo floating above her head—a signature canonical feature in Blue Archive—it was added via digital post-processing rather than a physical prop. Consequently, the retouching process was quite time-consuming, requiring precise positioning of light interaction during shooting, followed by meticulous calibration of color, brightness, and soft glow boundaries in post-production to achieve a translucent, natural integration with the night scene. As noted in the post description, the editing process spanned a full six months; immense thanks go to the post-production team for polishing every detail—it's no exaggeration, but rather the result of countless trials to recreate this fantasy setting faithfully.
During the shoot, we experimented with various postures. For example, pointing an index finger toward the camera with a "shushing" expression visually anchors the viewer's gaze with intense interactivity. Leaning against a pillar while extending handcuffs—shot from a high angle—accentuates arm contours and prop details. Yet my personal favorite remains the third shot: standing with one hand on hip while holding up handcuffs. This posture presents leg lines shaped by the pleated skirt and black socks while conveying her confident, effortless authority through body language.
Although she is inherently an Animal-eared girl with fantasy traits, putting on this Police uniform cosplay naturally exudes the calm composure and rigor of an instructor. The sharp tailoring of uniforms combined with cute character elements forms the magic of this concept. After wrapping up, I exchanged thoughts with the photographer on future tweaks—such as selecting a brighter street setting or subway station entrance next time to make the uniform colors pop even more. Sharing this six-month labor of retouching love is both a checkpoint for my Casual cosplay creative journey and a wonderful memory.
