[Kuromi Serika Cosplay] The Black Catgirl From Blue Archive, A Casual Street Photoshoot

This time, I'm bringing you Kuromi Serika's black dress look from Blue Archive. The overall project concept was to go for a more casual route that still stays true to the character's traits. Therefore, we abandoned complex combat or classroom interior scenes and instead chose this outdoor tree-lined walkway covered with fallen leaves. We wanted to shoot a casual feeling of "taking a walk after school," while trying our best to restore the character's cool yet slightly cat-like tsundere atmospheric vibe.
As for the clothing, this black strapless ruffled short dress is truly full of details. The upper body features three-dimensional black rose decorations, while the lower skirt is a tiered cake-puffy skirt structure made of layered light tulle, showing a wonderful sense of layering when walking or when a gentle breeze blows by. To coordinate with the overall black tone, it's also paired with a lace-textured choker and a silver pendant, which doesn't overshadow the main subject while leaving a bit of breathing room for the neck. The wig selected is long, straight black twin-tails with a relatively heavy blunt fringe. Paired with those black-eared, white-cored cat ear hair accessories, and that iconic pink geometric halo headpiece on top of the head, the character's attributes can be recognized at a single glance.
Speaking of the focus of this shoot, I actually really wanted to highlight the combination of black tights and high heels in this black tights outfit. Because the skirt hem is that kind of puffy short skirt structure that just happens to expose the part below the knees, the black tights and black pointed high heels become an extension of the vision. Especially since the soles of these shoes are vibrant red, accidentally revealing a little bit of the red bottom on the grass or slate road, or like in Figure 4, lifting the leg slightly to show off the sole, completely breaks the dark, heavy, and gloomy feeling. Under natural light, the black tights present a very delicate luster, which not only refines the leg shape but also brings the outfit closer to the character's setting of slight maturity and light sexiness.
During the shoot, we deliberately maintained a relatively relaxed sense of interaction. We didn't strike too many rigid, textbook hero skill poses, but instead, like in the pictures, naturally lifted the skirt hem, brushed through the hair, or leaned against the railing. The black rose in hand counted as a minor prop; it was originally intended for emotional expression, but later I found that holding the flower with one hand or lightly resting it on my shoulder actually gave the frame an extra touch of laziness. The weather was great, and the sunlight filtering through the leaves cast mottled light spots on my body. This diffuse reflection under natural light made the skin texture look very translucent. In post-processing, almost no heavy-handed color tuning was done; we just tried our best to preserve the light and shadow layers of the raw photo.
In fact, every time I do a cosplay with clear work and character attributes, the most thought-provoking part is how to shoot something different on the basis of restoring the original setting. Choosing an outdoor shoot instead of a studio shoot this time was also to borrow the environmental space to make the character a bit more "alive." This light tulle fabric with a black base and gold patterns can reflect a great luster under back-lighting or side-backlighting, so the photographer captured many angles like this where half of the body is in the light. The black dress itself is very light-absorbing, so we had to rely on lighting and reflectors on-site to keep the face clear, while allowing the texture of the black tights and the silhouette of the high heels to separate out nicely during this Convention outdoor photoshoot type of setup.
In addition, the compatibility of this outdoor venue is quite high. The railings and asphalt road, combined with rows of trees, mean that as long as you pay attention to the depth of field, once the foreground and background are blurred out, the main character becomes highly prominent. Standing at the junction of shade and sunlight, the contrast between light and dark naturally creates the photo's three-dimensionality. Whether it's lifting the skirt to look back or lowering my head to look at the flowers, these dynamic moments are actually harder to catch than simply standing still, as it requires keeping the skirt from collapsing, the cat ears from tilting, and the halo from falling. Fortunately, the final output managed to include all these minor details.
