For this Arknights Demon King Amiya cosplay photoshoot, we explored many new approaches from garment craftsmanship to studio lighting. When I first received this costume, I kept pondering how to embody that oppressive yet commanding aura of the Sarkaz. The upper body features a black tailored silhouette adorned with rigid spiked armor accents and a diamond-shaped brooch, spliced below into voluminous white puff sleeves and a tulle gown. The hem was crafted with raw, asymmetrical frayed edges and a black-to-gray gradient, creating a distressed, torn visual effect when walking. For the wig, I selected long straight brown hair with a subtle tousled texture; the oversized beast ears at the crown were deliberately treated with gradient shading, and paired with that jagged, spike-laden black crown, the entire aura transformed the instant I put it on. The makeup was skewed cool-toned, emphasizing facial bone structure to closely capture the distant, alienated aloofness defined in the lore.
During the shoot, photographer @Hongye dedicated immense effort to the chiaroscuro lighting. Because our prop was a glowing egg-shaped apparatus patterned with irregular white motifs, the studio ambient light was stopped down heavily to accentuate its prominence, utilizing cool-toned overhead top-lights to sculpt my silhouette. The egg itself served as a brilliant light source; cradling it naturally cast pure white light across my face and skirt folds, crafting an authentic sense of fantasy. I especially adore the shot in Photo 3 where light sweeps up from beneath, illuminating the ruffles of the white gauze and the black gradient with exquisite detail and tactile richness. When setting the lights, we continuously calibrated the egg's brightness and angle—aiming for a radiant glow without overexposing and washing out its inner textures, testing multiple parameter setups before finalizing.
To honor the character, I deliberately steered clear of lively postures, opting instead for static poses like side-sitting, cross-legged sitting, or kneeling with one knee raised, intentionally leaving my gaze somewhat vacant. Whether perched atop a white cylindrical prop or seated upon the carpet, I chased that impassive, faintly oppressive emotion. Bare feet stepping onto the cold, rigid white floor, complemented by the flowing sheer black cape cascading behind, locked the atmosphere into place. Such static poses genuinely put core stability to the test; holding a pose for extended periods stiffens the muscles, yet to ensure visual impact, I held my breath to freeze that split second.
The studio shoot was quite physically taxing—the crown and rabbit ears carried noticeable weight, leaving my neck rather sore after prolonged wear, but seeing the finished photos made every second worthwhile. I'm thoroughly pleased with my state in these captures, bringing out the Sarkaz Demon King Amiya's chilling aloofness and detachment. This is just the first drop of the set; two other distinct bunny variations are currently being tuned and shot, and I'll share them once retouching is complete. Every time I take on a character steeped in intense fantasy lore, fine-tuning the costume, props, and set environment requires time and devotion. This Cosplay photoshoot was a rewarding endeavor, and I look forward to polishing more nuances ahead to present even richer facets of the character.
