Today's outdoor shoot for Arknights Dusk by the lotus pond proceeded at a very brisk pace. Taking full advantage of the ideal natural lighting, we rapidly ran through several planned poses. The wardrobe features rich tactile layering: a white mandarin-collar inner shirt paired with a red tie printed with white geometric motifs, layered under a black and blue color-blocked coat fitted with zippers and metallic buckles. The techwear tailoring accented with gold and silver runic prints looked exceptionally striking under direct sunlight. However, this fabric trapped considerable heat in summer, so between takes I retreated under tree shade to cool off. The wig was styled in long, straight raven hair with teal-green streaks, crowned by teal branch-like dragon horns and pointed elf ears; due to the heavy pond gusts, numerous bobby pins were needed to secure the prosthetics and prevent shifting. The makeup prominently accentuated red contact lenses and crimson lower-eyelid shading to channel the character's unique, aloof presence.
The first sequence took place atop the rocks bordering the lotus pond, where I assumed a semi-crouch while clasping the closed white paper umbrella with both hands. This pose truly tested my balance; crouching in a structured coat meant the hem easily brushed against mud and grass, requiring my assistant just out of frame to continually adjust the fabric edges. Sunlight poured in from a high side angle, creating intense specular reflections off the broad lotus pads, so the photographer used reflectors to fill facial shadows cleanly. Clasping the bamboo handle offered a solid, grounded heft, while the arcane totem markings on the blue gloves contrasted sharply against the dark coat. To keep hand gestures from looking stiff, I modulated tension in the fingertips to preserve a fluid, organic contour.
For the second sequence, we transitioned to an adjacent traditional Chinese pavilion that provided elegant architectural framing. I opened the paper umbrella and leaned diagonally against the wooden railings. Unfurling the canopy revealed the mechanical tension of the bamboo ribs, whose monochrome patterns blended seamlessly with the heritage timber architecture behind. Posing with an open umbrella required careful arm placement to avoid casting shadows across the face or letting the umbrella ribs intersect the line of sight. I calibrated my stance and head tilt through multiple iterations, capturing close-ups of the gloves and purple prayer-bead bracelet. The passing breeze ruffled the hemline and tresses, generating an organic sense of dynamic motion.
The final frame captured an upright stance wielding the longsword. Its hilt was wrapped in black cordage offering tactile grip friction, requiring sustained wrist stabilization to keep the blade locked in place. Emotional composure was vital here: slightly tilting my chin down while locking eyes with the lens allowed the red contacts and eye makeup to convey a detached yet unwavering resolve. Outdoor shooting severely tests stamina and endurance—especially preserving pristine hair and wardrobe while commanding expressions in heavy layers under summer heat. Between takes, I blotted my face with tissues to stay dry, keeping makeup touch-ups ultra-light to avoid caking the foundation.
Today's production succeeded through seamless environmental utilization and light capture, backed by thorough advance discussions with the photographer regarding garment details, prop integration, and posture design. Folding the paper umbrella, sheathing the longsword, and shedding the heavy gear, I wrapped this outdoor shoot with a deeply satisfying set of raw files, ready to dive into the culling and post-processing workflow.
