[Sakura cosplay] Cardcaptor Sakura Duo Photoshoot: Sweet Moments with Tomoyo

On July 4th, we completed this duo indoor and outdoor shoot right on schedule. The shoot featured myself alongside partner @Liu Da Jin; I cosplayed Tomoyo Daidouji, while she portrayed Kinomoto Sakura. To faithfully recreate the costumes, we ironed the dark sailor tops and white pleated skirts beforehand, carefully adjusting the red piping along the collars and cuffs. For the wigs, my long, blue-violet wavy hair required extensive styling—I layered and curled the ends with a curling iron—while Sakura's brown twintails had their bangs re-combed, complemented by cherry hair clips and a wide white headband. The makeup incorporated peachy-orange blush and pink lip gloss, emphasizing the aegyo sal and eyelashes while pairing brown and purple contact lenses to honor the original character designs.

The shoot was split into two segments. The indoor part was hosted in a space with glass windows and wooden furniture, where we set up a goldfish tank. I deliberately asked the photographer to press the lens close to the glass, using the goldfish as soft foreground bokeh while focusing sharply on our faces, casting a hazy, dreamy underwater feel across the frame. Window doodles and reflections were woven into the framing; leaning against the glass together with one of us pointing in a shared direction lent quiet storytelling to the scene. The outdoor part took place along a tree-lined street under light drizzle, where we brought out a clear umbrella. Raindrops beaded across the canopy, reflecting lush greenery and the overcast sky. Holding the umbrella roadside, I looked upward with an outstretched hand to catch falling droplets, while the photographer captured natural fluttering motion as the breeze caught my skirt.

Duo interaction was the focal heart of this shoot. Sitting side by side on red chairs with naturally crossed legs, one close-up specifically captured our gently clasped hands, fingers lightly intertwined. We also formed an overhead heart with our arms, requiring symmetrical angles that took several attempts to nail the composition. This close body language channeled a tender, everyday comfort—cuddling and sweet closeness truly are the best ways to showcase effortless mutual chemistry. Between takes, we exchanged thoughts on the emotional bond between the characters: that quiet wish to protect one another and ensure the other is always happy was what we strived to project before the lens. While that famous line about different meanings of 'like' wasn't spelled out in the photos, sitting side by side in peaceful silence conveyed it completely.

From steaming garments and preparing props to coordinating lighting, the entire team poured immense heart into this project. Indoors, natural side lighting paired with reflectors softened facial shadows, avoiding harsh contrasts. Outdoors, diffused daylight under the canopy made skin tones look translucent and pristine. Post-processing preserved the fabric weave of the sailor uniforms and hair texture without over-smoothing. Seeing the final frames harmonizing goldfish, glass reflections, the umbrella, and the two of us together, I feel our summer shooting project reached a truly wonderful completion.
