[Sakura cosplay] Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo: Casual Moments in the Classic Red and White Battle Costume

On Day 2 of Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo on July 18, 2026, I brought my prepped gear to cosplay Sakura. This time, the focus was placed on the classic red-and-white dress. The temperature in Guangzhou was very high that day, but inside the venue, with the lighting, prop setups, and the photographer's lens, I instantly felt the immersion of stepping into the 2D world.

Regarding the character selection and recreation of this costume, Sakura's styling is actually very meticulous. The large red bow at the neckline is the visual focal point, and along with multi-layered white ruffles along the cuffs and skirt hem, it immediately radiates youthful girl charm once worn. I specially chose lace-trimmed white gloves, paired with brownish-red short hair and light green contact lenses, striving to capture the character's charm in every hair and makeup detail. The wig was also trimmed before the convention; because of the dense crowd and constant walking, bangs can easily get messy, so I styled and set them with hairspray beforehand.

Prop preparations for this shoot were very thorough: I brought a yellow Kero plush, two circular emblem cards, and rectangular magic cards. These little props added tremendous narrative value when posing—whether held against the chest or raised overhead, they made the storytelling in the frame much more vibrant. Especially when paired with the custom standee featuring sakura, starburst, and crescent moon motifs in the background, the red-and-white dress and the vintage textures blended in harmonious color contrast.

The convention environment on that day was quite busy, surrounded by cardboard boxes, handcarts, and onlookers. However, photographer NightDiva was skilled at capturing angles, switching between wide-angle and close-ups to flawlessly avoid cluttered backgrounds around the booth. The overhead spotlights cast hard light, but the photographer brought fill lighting equipment, making the exposure across the photos very clean and translucent. When shooting full-body shots, I had to keep an eye on the skirt length to avoid stepping on the ruffles, but moving around was generally quite manageable.

There's often a lot of unexpected adjustment between pre-cosplay prep and live presentation. For instance, wearing multi-layered garments in high temperatures makes you sweat easily; to maintain makeup precision, I had to touch up powder and lipstick almost every few shots. Many fellow fans and young admirers came over to take photos together upon seeing this look. Bringing a 2D character into reality and receiving everyone's recognition and love brings a true sense of accomplishment.

The whole set went smoothly. Although it took under half an hour of focused shooting, thanks to the vibrant, recognizable costume colors and the photographer's precise shutter timing, the final results turned out ideal. I'll continue organizing more detail shots from this set later. As a cosplayer who frequently attends conventions, whenever I interpret characters from classic works on-site, my love for the original always shines through the outfits and poses. The D2 schedule at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo was very fulfilling, and I hope the ambiance of these photos conveys the bright, warm everyday charm of the character in this Anime-style photography set of Convention photos.
