I've finally sorted out this set of Robin convention hall photos! Running around all day at the IJOY Convention yielded a photo success rate that genuinely surprised me. The horizontal shots carry even more visual tension than the vertical ones, which is exactly why I adore saving landscape compositions.
Recreating this coordinate took immense preparation beforehand. The biggest headache was this white plush miniskirt—the fabric is remarkably dense and carries noticeable weight on its own. While the texture looks fantastic, wearing it in a packed, crowded convention hall was a real test of stamina. Still, for character accuracy, that effort was entirely worth it. The light-blue bandeau top paired with the plush bow reflects bright convention lights with a delicate sheen, so while shooting I sought out top lighting or side-backlighting to bring out the material's rich textures.
For the wig, I selected a long, wavy light-blue style. To capture an airy, feather-light texture on camera, I spent considerable time sculpting the hair flow and setting it with hairspray. The halo is actually anchored to a hidden headband, which, paired with the white feather wings on both sides, gave my head silhouette a beautifully full contour in frontal shots. On the makeup front, matching her graceful temperament meant wearing turquoise contact lenses, keeping the eye makeup luminous and clean, and adding subtle glitter specks so my eyes stayed bright even under harsh convention lights.
Posing design was another major challenge of this shoot. To express the character's agile grace, many poses involved single-leg balances or mid-air leaps. The white platform boots were a lifesaver—not only elongating leg lines, but their chunky base also provided solid stability, helping me keep my toes pointed and arches taut even when balancing off-center. Getting the skirt to flare required coordinated momentum between waist twists and arm swings; photographer A Nao timed the shutter clicks impeccably, catching that split second when hair and hem fanned out simultaneously in mid-air.
The convention floor was chaotic, filled with passersby and metallic scaffolding, making clean angles tricky to find. To dodge the crowds, we positioned ourselves along booth perimeters hit by overhead spotlights, using a wide aperture to melt background lights into soft bokeh. This darkened the background while making porcelain skin and garment colors pop. Horizontal framing proved ideal for dynamic snapshots—retaining more ambient atmosphere while giving extended arms and leaping legs plenty of room to stretch without feeling constrained.
After a full day of jumping and freezing in mid-motion, my leg muscles were genuinely sore, and the heavy garments inevitably left me soaked in sweat. But seeing the final photos made all the fatigue vanish. The magic of convention photography lies precisely in that irreproducible live energy when light, shadow, and movement align just right. Working with A Nao went with seamless chemistry, landing so many satisfying angles. Bringing this Robin look to life fulfilled a heartfelt wish—both in the texture of the accessories and the overall dynamic energy, it exceeded all my expectations.
