This summer-exclusive Firefly Swimsuit cosplay shot at Chimelong turned out to be a wonderfully rewarding project. To faithfully recreate Firefly's signature aesthetic from Honkai: Star Rail, extensive preparation went into hair and makeup styling. The wig, transitioning from silver-white to mint-green gradient tips, required meticulous adjustment, topped with a black headband featuring blue diamond motifs. To withstand the water park environment, generous waterproof setting spray was applied so pool mist wouldn't collapse the hair's dimensional layers. Violet circle lenses and eye makeup took center stage, with deliberate emphasis on the aegyo-sal and lash sweep to ensure an expressive, spirited gaze before the lens.
The swimsuit honored the character's teal-and-black palette: an off-the-shoulder cut edged with black mesh paired with mint-green ruffled flounces, accented by a bright yellow neck bow at the chest. Paired with a sheer white gauzy underskirt, it felt breezy and lightweight, while the midriff-baring cut and double black thigh bands offered comfortable wear. Shooting during bright daylight required utilizing nearby stainless-steel railings and steps to catch flattering bounce light. The photographer directed me to perch along the pool rim or turn in profile to accentuate leg lines, occasionally incorporating a white swim ring for natural interaction. Posing barefoot along the waterside meant stepping onto blue mosaic tiles, and while rogue splashes occasionally dampened the legs, it only heightened the refreshing summer ambiance.
Guangzhou Chimelong's park scenery proved exceptionally photogenic: the lush tropical foliage in the background blended seamlessly with the azure water, requiring only basic exposure and saturation tuning in post-processing to bring out crisp, sunny translucence. The shoot was physically demanding given the poolside heat and heavy humidity, which constantly threatened to soak the wig and fabric. To maintain visual crispness, we paused between takes to touch up makeup and restyle the hair roots. Seeing the final results made every bit of effort worthwhile. Wrapping up this set allowed us to enjoy the festive spirit of Chimelong Water Festival while completely capturing Firefly's summer swimsuit persona through the lens. For fans of the character or photographers drawn to summer swimwear themes, the staging and lighting here offer great practical inspiration.
