I finally got around to finishing this set of photos today! Initially, my goal was to cosplay a Lalafell from Final Fantasy XIV. To faithfully channel that round, adorable silhouette and vibe, I prepped this bright yellow Maid outfit, pairing it with white tights and black Mary Janes. The original plan was to portray an endearing little chef, but the shoot itself turned out to be quite an eventful rollercoaster.
First off was the Moogle ear accessory: it kept slipping off continuously, and after walking a loop around the venue, someone accidentally stepped on it and soiled it. In the end, I simply gave up on wearing it and wept silently inside. Then came the contact lenses. I had originally selected a pair of vivid blue contacts, hoping to capture that crystalline clarity typical of Lalafells in-game. However, due to their intense brightness combined with my blunt straight bangs, wearing them made me look unexpectedly fierce—giving off total American McGee's Alice energy. Even though the dye was a lovely honey yellow, my brain kept looping 'bee honey lovely' on endless repeat while retouching, sending me into a daze. I couldn't help sighing at my somewhat wild-looking expression while editing; I was supposed to be going for cute!
The massive black kitchen cleaver in hand served as a crucial prop for this shoot. Even while wearing a frilly lace apron and a voluminous dress trimmed with brown ruffles, wielding a heavy kitchen knife dialed the gap-moe contrast up to eleven. That contrast peaked when I carried a chubby plush white cat bag later on; the grinning feline face paired with my deadpan poker face produced an unexpectedly striking, edgy vibe. To prop up this yellow-and-white dress with its multi-tiered ruffles and brown bows, I layered multiple heavy petticoats underneath, which made moving around quite cumbersome. On camera, however, whenever I twirled or lifted the skirt, the flared volume was exactly what I had envisioned.
The weather was reasonably cooperative during the shoot, but outside a bustling outdoor Anime convention, navigating the crowds really put my patience to the test. Many times while brandishing the cleaver, I wished it were as weightless as digital in-game weaponry; in reality, holding it up for extended periods made my wrists quite sore. As for the costume details, the white lace trims, the brown neckline bow centered with a red gem, and the side waist buckles were prone to loosening or deforming while walking. To keep the White stockings and shoes pristine, I barely dared to take large strides. I couldn't make it to the Fan Festival venue grounds this time and had to pretend I was there, feeling immensely envious while scrolling through everyone else's event photos. My head is currently full of wishes that tomorrow were September 27 for Patch 7.0 launch so I could jump straight into new content and zones. To do this outfit justice next time, I'm definitely going to study better ways to fasten the Moogle ears so they never fall again. I will also pick out softer, more natural contact lenses that better fit the lore, aiming for genuine, gentle cuteness rather than this manic Alice vibe. With editing wrapped up, despite the minor hiccups along the way, the core concept came through clearly. The soft blonde wig looked stunning under natural sunlight, making all the prep and chaos well worth the effort.
