The convention photos from CP29 Comicup are finally here, and this time I chose Noshiro's Maid outfit from Azur Lane. When the official 'Hold the Ice?' skin was released, I fell in love with it immediately, and took the chance at the convention to faithfully recreate this look. As someone who doesn't cosplay too often, what delighted me most was how well the costume details and my overall state matched my ideal vision.
The convention was packed that day, so to get clean shots, we sought out a quieter spot. Sitting on the outdoor concrete ground wasn't as rough as I feared; to keep the dress pristine, I placed a black plastic bag underneath, which ended up serving as an interesting, candid visual element in the shot. The most eye-catching part of the look is the pairing of the Maid outfit with garter stockings—the white high heels combined with the Black tights outfit elevated overall body proportions. I loved the subtle sway of the skirt while walking and the sleek lines of extended legs when seated.
The two red horns atop my head are iconic; paired with the twin-tails and thick bangs, they instantly channeled the character's subtle demeanor. To complement the outfit, I brought a white clipboard as a prop. During walkthroughs and photoshoots, holding or cradling the clipboard offered diverse, natural poses without awkwardly wondering where to rest my hands. Classic gestures like brushing my hair with one hand while standing or stretching my legs forward while seated captured the everyday service yet slightly sassy nature of the maid theme.
Many asked if wearing this was tiring, but the white heels feature a platform, making walking much steadier than expected. Although black hosiery easily picks up dust outdoors, wearing it was well worth it to honor this classic element. The photographer offered wonderful guidance, avoiding overly complex poses in favor of an effortless, relaxed vibe that fit the theme best. Shots of me seated and casually flipping through the clipboard captured the authentic reality of resting while on duty at the convention.
We shot under soft natural daylight complemented by subtle ambient rim light, capturing a visible Tyndall effect from fine dust particles in the light beams—an accidental, beautiful atmospheric touch. Looking at these photos instantly brings back the bustling energy of the CP29 Comicup. Despite crowds passing by, immersing myself in the character made external chatter fade into soothing background white noise.
The outfit features clever little nuances: the black choker with heart motifs, the black-and-white heart button at the chest, delicate lace frills, waist lacing, and a continuous ring of heart patterns along the skirt hem, all infusing youthful sweetness. Cosplay is never just about wearing clothes, but connecting with the character through posture and emotion.
Though not every shot was flawless, the overall journey was deeply rewarding. A Maid outfit carries an inherent charm at conventions that naturally draws the eye. The white base with black accents balances refreshing sweetness with subtle allure. Being able to capture these moments amidst the CP29 rush felt like pure joy. Given the chance, I would love to explore more styling blending café service elements with unique 2D character designs in the future.
