Shooting idol Kuromi Serika cosplay under the blazing Wuhan sun was truly a painful yet joyful experience. Yesterday at Wuhan bao, the ambient temperature was insanely high—walking on the street felt like melting. Yet for this Blue Archive idol version of Kuromi Serika, I kept myself fully bundled up and completed the shoot outdoors facing the scorching sun.
This time, I cosplayed the idol style of Kuromi Serika, which feels completely distinct from her everyday school uniform. To capture an idol's dynamic stage presence, I poured considerable effort into the makeup. Crimson contact lenses were paired with blended reddish eyeshadow around the eyes, with deliberate stitch-like eyeliner beneath the lower lids. Combined with widely diffused pink blush, I aimed to convey an idol's signature energetic and polished charm. The wig was a deep blue short cut with blunt bangs; to flatter my face shape and enhance character recognition, I spent a long time tailoring and sculpting the layers. Perched on my head was a black leather peaked military cap. The pink criss-cross halo atop the cap was the most striking focal point of the ensemble; though lightweight, it boasted fantastic texture under the outdoor sunlight, only requiring a steadying hand whenever gusts of wind picked up.
As for the outfit, a black sleeveless vest was layered over a dark blue inner shirt. The black leather choker with a metallic ring at the neck, coupled with spiked and square-buckle wristbands and black gloves, injected a cool, edgy vibe into the idol sweetness. Because the weather was sweltering, I was genuinely worried the makeup would melt, so I spent breaks feverishly doing touch-ups and dabbing away sweat with tissues. Fortunately, the photographer's candid captures were spot-on, seizing the exact moment I reached up to touch the cap brim. Harmonizing with the outdoor natural light, the visual texture emerged immediately.
Attending the Wuhan Blue Archive Only event was exhilarating; although participating merely as an attendee and cosplayer, I felt everyone's overflowing passion. Seeing everyone in their zones passionately recreating their beloved characters created such an incredible atmosphere. While shooting this set, I also tried my best to channel that idol stage presence—focusing my gaze with determination and tilting my chin slightly up—hoping these subtle gestures would reveal a side of Kuromi Serika different from her daily routine.
Shooting outdoor cosplay is undeniably a dual endurance test of stamina and patience, especially while bundled in black garments and gloves where being drenched in sweat is par for the course. Yet seeing the finished shots makes every bit of hardship worthwhile. There are still many subtle details of this outfit left to showcase, and I hope to revisit this styling in a cooler, more dedicated studio setting in the future to explore even more creative possibilities for idol Kuromi Serika.
