[Kuda Izuna cosplay] Blue Archive: On-the-Spot Look at the Little Fox's Izuna-Style Ninjutsu

"Izuna-style Ninjutsu, reporting for duty!" This time, working with photographer @Banqing on location in a bamboo grove for some outdoor Bamboo sea photography, we aimed to recreate Kuda Izuna from Blue Archive—capturing her unique character design that blends a stealthy ninja with a furry fox through specialized makeup, styling, and visual composition.

Regarding makeup and styling, to stay true to Kuda Izuna's lively and energetic personality, I went with a reddish-brown smudged eye makeup paired with amber lenses to give her eyes a bright, spirited look. The hair accessory featuring a fox mask serves as the visual highlight, which, together with the plush-textured beast ears, instantly boosts character recognition. Although her signature pink halo was slightly cropped at the top due to framing in closer shots, it still captures that distinct canonical element.

As for the outfit, it's a classic hybrid of a Japanese-style sailor suit and traditional Japanese design elements. The dark blue sailor collar and white top base, paired with a vivid magenta neckerchief and sash, create a striking color contrast. White floral patterns on the sleeves, combined with fingerless gloves and dark wide wrist guards, keep the outfit lightweight for movement while retaining ninja functional details, looking crisp under natural outdoor sunlight.

The light on shoot day was fantastic, with sunlight filtering through the bamboo stalks to cast soft dappled patterns. I chose a few of the greenest spots for background framing; the rich green backdrop beautifully set off the high-saturation costume colors like red, white, black, and yellow. Close-up shots captured the plush texture of the beast ears and subtle light on eyelashes, while half-body shots showed off the ninja stance and overall proportion of the Fox mask and beast ears accessories, creating a dynamic visual narrative.

While bringing this character to life, I really felt how vibrant Kuda Izuna's personality is—she blends fox-like cleverness with a ninja's confidence and cheeky charm. For posing, I specifically referenced ninja hand seals, pairing them with fingerless gloves and sleek wrist guards to convey an immersive "ready to unleash Ninjutsu at any moment" vibe. Compared to the cool tones of the surrounding bamboo forest, the warm color blocks of the outfit naturally pull visual focus to the subject, which is a super practical color-matching tip for cosplay photography.

To maintain Kuda Izuna's distinct aura, I kept my facial expressions natural and controlled—not too tense, nor overly cute, but aiming for a confident, slightly smug smile. Outdoor shoots always test makeup durability, but fortunately, the setting powder held up exceptionally well. Combined with ample natural light, the translucent skin quality required minimal post-processing retouching, yielding a fresh, bright, and spirited look.

This photo set is both a homage to Blue Archive and another personal exploration into Japanese-style beast ear designs. Working with @Banqing allowed us to capture Kuda Izuna's lively energy, bringing the lighthearted, ninjutsu-filled fun of the game seamlessly into reality.
