[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive: A Girl in Black stockings and Chinese-style Qipao in a New Chinese Aesthetic

Shooting Misaki cosplay from Blue Archive this time, we specifically blended elements in outfit and makeup styling to highlight her regal yet adorable demeanor. A white modified Chinese-style Qipao served as the core of this look, accented at the collar and chest with vibrant red knots and frog buttons that instantly added a sharp visual anchor to the pure white base. The oversized, fluffy white arm sleeves on my arms were exceptionally eye-catching; this plush texture softened the inherent formality of the qipao, injecting that dreamy, delicate touch typical of anime characters.

A lot of thought also went into the wig and headpiece styling. The dark short wig was paired with vivid flower ornaments on top and at the sides, alongside a uniquely shaped white horn accessory, giving the head silhouette a full, well-rounded shape. During the shoot, the wig and ornaments were actually quite heavy, requiring constant angle adjustments to keep them secure, but the final 3D effect made it completely worth the effort.

Since it was a traditional set, we incorporated numerous props on location. In the first photo, for example, I sat on a dark carved wooden chair holding a wooden folding fan in my right hand; this half-open stance perfectly conveyed a reserved yet slightly relaxed aura. We deliberately set up strong side-backlighting, where light rays pierced through the edges of the fluffy sleeves onto the white qipao fabric, creating striking contrast between light and shadow. This lighting elevated the portrait texture while allowing the legs clad in Black stockings and the qipao hemline to be carved into rich layers by the light.

The second photo highlights part of the tabletop set design—a thatched floor lamp paired with nearby greenery and blue books, creating a serene tea room atmosphere. Although a close-up detail shot, it adds a wonderful narrative layer to the entire photo set.

Throughout the shoot, achieving a natural and relaxed feel required close coordination with the photographer's candid captures. For instance, with the sitting angles, we had to ensure the Black stockings and leg lines appeared long and graceful in frame without bunching the qipao fabric awkwardly. Balancing the qipao hem length against the visual weight of the fluffy sleeves meant trying several variations for holding the fan and placing my hands. The sheen of the Black stockings material also varied depending on the angle, requiring continuous adjustments to leg orientation.

Beyond costume and props, capturing Misaki's cute essence relied heavily on emotional guidance. Rather than forcing dramatic gestures, a subtle tilt of the head, lowering my gaze toward the folding fan, or glancing casually at the camera naturally brought out a tranquil yet delicate inner mood. This quiet ambience really tested expression control, but fortunately, the traditional set possessed a calming energy of its own. Looking at the finalized photos with plush textures and striking red-and-white colors, all the time spent tuning the headpiece and props felt thoroughly rewarding. I'm quite happy with this Misaki cosplay attempt—New Chinese style Anime-style photography suits her brilliantly.
