For this Chinese-style studio photoshoot featuring Misaki cosplay in a Qipao styling, extensive effort was invested in set construction and pose choreography. For the wardrobe, I chose a sleeveless modernized dark blue Qipao accented with traditional gold totems and intricate frog button closures along the front and sides. To faithfully recreate the character from Blue Archive, I commissioned a custom black twin-tail wig, paired with blue butterfly hairpins and color-matched contact lenses. The makeup focused primarily on defining the eyes against a clean porcelain base. Because the Qipao featured high side slits, I wore black safety shorts underneath, switching between high heels and barefoot poses throughout the shoot to ensure a natural flow in every composition.
The Chinese-style studio photoshoot set arranged by photographer OUKAI was exceptionally professional. The backdrop featured wooden latticework screens with a grand circular opening in the center, backed by black drapery and branches of red plum blossoms. In the center of the scene stood a carved wooden chaise lounge draped in a white plush throw, with flowing red sheer chiffon casually cascading across it. To the left were wooden lanterns, white porcelain vases, and Taihu scholar stone ornaments, while the bookshelf on the right displayed thread-bound books and potted plants. The overall lighting favored warm hues, tightly focused on the subject while allowing the background to remain dim, creating a compelling chiaroscuro contrast that accentuated the 2D aesthetic.
In designing the poses, I developed diverse postures around the props. When holding folded bamboo slips, I primarily adopted kneeling and side-sitting poses to flatter the contours of my legs. When holding a small white wine cup, I reclined sideways on the lounge, using the red chiffon as a blurred foreground to add rich visual depth. For standing shots, I draped an outer robe with striped lining over my shoulders, subtly lifting one leg. The postures on the chaise lounge underwent multiple adjustments, including reclining and sitting cross-legged. To maintain aesthetic grace despite the aching feet from wearing high heels for so long, slipping them off during breaks to step barefoot onto the plush rug felt wonderfully relaxing and grounded.
The entire shoot went quite smoothly, capturing both sweeping wide shots of the environment and intimate character close-ups. Choreographing each set of movements required continuous communication with the photographer, particularly regarding the positioning of the red chiffon and the illumination angles, which were fine-tuned countless times. The final visual presentation successfully harmonized elegance with sultry charm for this Misaki cosplay project.
