Shooting on-site at the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition, this set of Altria's cosplay photoshoot features a light blue and white bunny ear look. In the complex environment of an anime convention, finding a clean patch of grass and background is actually not easy, but that day we happened to catch the golden hour of dusk. The light was extremely soft, and with the photographer's outdoor flash for fill light, it ultimately presented this softer texture.
In terms of costume, the light blue halter-neck design combined with the cutout tailoring on the front chest, along with the matching bunny ear headband, creates a huge contrast with the battle armor image everyone is usually familiar with. The white ruffled sleeves and the layered design of the skirt hem, coordinated with striped and diamond-lattice spliced thigh-high socks, present an overall refreshing and playful feel. The long wig is easily affected by the wind during outdoor shooting, but the hair stylist did a wonderful job taming it before going on set, keeping the bangs and twin-tails at natural curves without obvious frizz.
We actually encountered some minor episodes during the shoot, such as the sunset dropping exceptionally fast, requiring us to snapshot different poses within limited time. The first shot of standing on one foot and stretching required great balance, and attention was needed to prevent the skirt hem from flying wildly. The subsequent sitting poses on the grass required ensuring the edges of the clothes wouldn't catch too much grass debris; these tiny details required extra care during both the shoot and post-processing. This photo set mainly wants to present a relaxed, natural mood, which, paired with thigh-high socks and thick-soled shoes, shifts the overall visual center of gravity downward, topped with embellishments like bowknots to increase the character's cuteness.
For pulling off derivative styles of such Fate/Grand Order characters, how to exhibit a different atmosphere while retaining character traits was actually the primary direction of thought for this shoot. Altria's original setting is a heroic King of Knights, but after changing into this kind of dress that leans toward modern aesthetics, one needs to maintain a focused gaze while dropping some dignity in actions to head toward being lively. After aligning with the photographer, we selected angles of stretching out on the grass with a deeper background bokeh, letting the visual focus perfectly concentrate on the subject.
Additionally, although the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition had huge foot traffic this time, being able to catch such a quiet outdoor period for shooting was highly worthwhile. Outdoor location shooting places higher demands on photo quality; this kind of light-colored clothing doesn't absorb light easily outdoors, so outdoor strobe lights were used to suppress the ambient light, making the sky's clouds and colors distinctly layered, while rendering the costume's light blue brighter and more translucent. The final images underwent no excessive modifications in post-processing, preserving the authentic skin texture and the original fabric grain of the clothing as much as possible. This shooting experience was extremely pleasant, and I hope everyone can see the cute and vivid other side of this character through this set of outdoor shoots with a touch of fantasy via this piece of Anime-style photography.
