Shooting this Arknights Peipei cosplay piece brought many memorable moments across pre-production and on-site photography. Let's start with the costume—the design emphasizes exquisite details. The black upper coat features prominent gold edging and shoulder insignias, layered over a white top with a black bow at the collar. Along with a long, straight pinkish-brown wig, the styling includes intricate headwear, such as pearl chains, golden wing motifs, and white blossoms. The most demanding element was the leg ornamentation: belt buckles, metallic rivets, black strappy high-heeled sandals, and a Leg garter. Putting them on was somewhat tedious, but the visual result turned out amazing.
As for the set design, we adopted an intensely intricate Vintage style. Numerous cushions adorned with Persian patterns and mandala motifs were spread across the floor. We also incorporated shimmering gold pleated fabric, tilted golden picture frames, dark red vintage wooden chests, and golden wheat-ear ornaments, together sculpting a sense of cluttered opulence. Intense backlighting during the shoot filtered in from the upper right, casting a gorgeous halo that accentuated the tactile texture of the golden fabrics.
To achieve extreme visual impact, we experimented with diverse compositions. For instance, one shot utilized an overhead perspective close to the feet, leveraging perspective foreshortening along the thighs against the intricate foreground and backdrop to concentrate the visual focal point. The photographer guided poses professionally, capturing various postures like hugging knees and resting the chin on hands; under this lighting ambiance, the shooting efficiency was remarkable. In post-processing, we adjusted color temperature specifically for the vintage golden tones, infusing shadows with a warm deep brown while keeping skin natural and luminous. Overall, this is one of my favorite recent photo sets, especially with fabric reflections and spatial layering translating so well on camera.
Because the weather was freezing, shooting was quite challenging, especially keeping the legs bare for hours in heeled shoes, which tested physical stamina. However, by adjusting breathing and movements, we successfully captured the desired demeanor. Mastering the character's temperament relied on gaze and posture, expressing a languid yet mysterious aura. Thematic photography like this truly deepened my understanding of character styling.
