[Tomimi cosplay] Arknights: Complaining About This Staff That's Taller Than Me!

Tomimi's outfit from Arknights features numerous details, requiring many accessories to be adjusted and secured during preparations. Wearing this full costume felt quite heavy, especially the massive tail behind me, which had to be anchored at the waist; finding the center of gravity was tricky, demanding constant caution when walking or turning around. The most troublesome piece was the staff in hand—not only is it long, but the ring structure at the top is quite intricate. Framing a Mirror selfie while holding it was very challenging; I initially just wanted a standard full-body shot, but found it filled the entire frame.

Because the character's outfit emphasizes layering, I dedicated significant effort to hair and makeup. The hood fabric is somewhat stiff, so I added shaping material inside to keep its full, structured form. The translucent chiffon sleeves on the garment wrinkle very easily and were tedious to smooth out. The leg straps and cutout designs demand good body proportions, requiring repeated adjustments to the right tightness when putting them on so that the lines display flatteringly. The footwear is also unique—the platform design offered great height-boosting effects, but added strain on the feet, leaving the tops of my feet sore after standing for long periods.

Since the shoot took place in a hotel room, lighting relied primarily on indoor ambient fixtures. I utilized the room's light-colored cabinetry and polished floor tiles as the background, which reflected just enough light to keep the overall frame looking clean. Choosing a Mirror selfie approach allowed me to showcase both the front costume details and side profile contours simultaneously, while creating a well-layered visual dynamic between myself, the tail, and the staff. To match the character's temperament, I specifically adjusted my standing posture—turning slightly sideways to look back into the camera, allowing the dragging weight of the large tail behind me to show naturally.

The biggest challenge of this photoshoot lay in transporting and storing the props. The long staff took up considerable space indoors, and the tail's volume was larger than expected, requiring repeated back-and-forth angle adjustments to find a suitable camera position. During post-editing, the focus was mainly on cleaning up floor tile glare and ambient clutter to make the subject pop. For this character, I feel the core is showcasing gear characteristics and overall presence; through continuous tuning of posture and angles, I finally selected this shot with a relaxed demeanor and clear prop presentation. The makeup details and wig care were all aimed at staying true to the character's traits and recreating the lore's vibe. This is not merely a costume showcase, but a reinterpretation of a classic game character integrating my understanding of gear mechanics, hoping to convey that lively vitality unique to the jungle and wilderness. Given height constraints, the staff is indeed way taller than me—fitting the quote "Mimi... you're not even as tall as your weapon," which was truly the most authentic reflection of the shoot, leaving behind this moment full of everyday casual charm.
