[Aglaea Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Outdoor Shoot Record and Anime-Style Fashion Tips

I had done plenty of homework on Aglaea's white dress look from Honkai: Star Rail even before deciding to do the cosplay. The main focus of this photoshoot was to recreate the character's cool yet sacred, divine atmosphere, so I put a lot of energy into preparation, styling, and anime-style fashion details.

First, about the wig—to present better depth and layering, this blonde wig underwent many adjustments in trimming and styling. The curve of the bangs across the forehead was controlled just right, and paired with side strands framing the face, it made facial contours look more three-dimensional while faithfully capturing the light, flowing texture from the original art. Fine texture was added to the hair strands so it wouldn't look overly stiff even under outdoor lighting. A small white flower ornament was added to the side of the head, giving a gentle touch to the overall look.

For the costume, I chose a style dominated by white with gold accessories as accents. The eye-catching gold necklace at the neckline is one of the visual highlights of the outfit, featuring intricate designs with vine and petal elements. To showcase metallic sheen and weight, several materials were tested, and the final piece achieves a lovely refractive effect under sunlight. The thin shoulder straps and tailored cut nicely highlight the collarbone and neckline—this design is not only highly accurate, but also makes one's posture look poised in front of the camera. The drape of the white dress was also carefully selected so it wouldn't feel overly flimsy.

For makeup, to fit Aglaea's iconic green eyes, I wore natural-colored green contact lenses paired with earth-tone eyeshadow for smooth gradients. The focus of the eye makeup was lengthening the outer corners to enhance sharpness, while false eyelashes enlarged the eyes to give them a lively, expressive look. A fun little detail in this photo was using props on hand and post-editing doodles to add a yellow flower doodle over the mouth, while adding tiny purple flowers on the cheeks. This added fun interactive charm to the image, making the overall mood lively and playful while cleverly preserving a bit of mystery.

The location chosen for this outdoor shoot was beside outdoor flower beds, bursting with a spring vibe. The background's vast spread of pinkish-purple and yellow flowers happened to echo the character's hair color and outfit design visually. Outdoor natural light is an excellent choice for capturing soft-style characters, perfectly showcasing the pure feeling of the blonde wig and white dress. However, there were quite a few insects around the flower beds, requiring me to constantly adjust poses while repelling mosquitoes—making it a truly patience-testing outdoor shoot experience.

In this shoot, I paid special attention to placing the character in the central area of the frame. Since there was only one photo to share, I took many discarded shots from various angles before picking this one with the most relaxed composition and softest lighting. A telephoto lens was used to compress background depth slightly, making the flowers appear denser to form a natural sea of blossoms. Even if the mouth area wasn't fully visible due to the doodles, the expressive state conveyed by the eyes achieved the expected result of this outdoor shoot. Adding doodles was a fun way to relax and break away from rigid posing, bringing a more grounded, casual feel to cosplay photography.
