This official photo shoot features Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail. A lot of details were prepared in the early stages, especially the styling of the wig and the characteristic makeup, aiming to present that lazy yet slightly playful expression in front of the lens. Paired with a gaming chair and an environment of red and blue neon lights, the overall visual style leans closer to the character's inherent casual yet tension-filled vibe.
Let's first talk about the clothing coordination concept. This time, the upper body features a black off-shoulder short zip-up shirt. The draped design at the neckline beautifully flatters the shoulder and neck lines, while adding a bit of layering and relaxation to the overall styling. The lower body is paired with a classic red-and-black plaid pleated short skirt; the pleating and length of the hem provide a great dynamic effect in both sitting and lying postures, preventing it from looking rigid due to large-scale movements. For the leg details, white semi-transparent short socks are paired with a black leather thigh ring on the upper leg. The combination of these items is highly eye-catching visually, enhancing the overall silhouette while maintaining the recognizability of the cosplay itself. The shoes selected are black thick-soled lace-up short boots, which not only elongate the leg proportions but also lend a stronger aura to both standing and sitting poses, with the thick-soled material being more comfortable and stable when moving around the indoor studio.
In terms of makeup, a lot of thought was spent this time. The base makeup is clean and translucent. Aside from the blending of the eyeshadow, the most eye-catching part of the eye makeup is the collision with that bit of red lip makeup, which instantly brightens the whole facial complexion. The black cross mark under the right eye and the dot-like decoration under the left eye are the crowning touches, requiring highly precise hand-painting to ensure they don't look abrupt under high-definition lens shooting. This is also key to making the makeup details solid enough under close-up shots. The red transparent lens sunglasses overhead serve as a decoration, which not only increases the completion of the styling but also adds a layer of transparent light and shadow to the contours of the brows and eyes during big close-ups, making it another small, clever detail.
Regarding the choice of props, I carried that long-handled staff, which has a highly solid grip. The white main body, along with the golden rings and the red-and-yellow top details, is exceptionally exquisite. During the actual shoot, the gripping angle needed to be well-controlled to prevent the prop from generating harsh reflections or stealing the character's spotlight, striving to reach a visual balance with the body posture and the direction of the gaze. Especially moving back and forth to adjust the chair angle on set to find that seating point that was both comfortable and capable of showcasing the clothing and leg details was a process that highly tested patience. Sometimes, for a single perfect angle, I would toss and turn on the chair for twenty minutes.
The environment for this shoot was particularly interesting, featuring a gaming chair paired with a rig resembling a racing simulator, which, combined with the two-tone red and blue lighting background, created an atmosphere that was a bit cyberpunk and a bit like a private gaming space. The photographer's lighting was highly sophisticated: a cyan light source filtered through from the left side, hitting the knees and white socks to outline crisp leg lines, forming a sharp visual contrast with the intense magenta-purple light on the right side, looking both impactful and soft. In front of the lens, I experimented with a playful single-hand chin-rest and a lazy leaning-back posture, wanting to capture the character's informal, free, and relaxed feel. Although maintaining poses for a long time was quite a test for the waist and back, seeing the final color-graded photos, that sense of vitality emerging from the dark environment brought an absolute sense of achievement.
In fact, in the daily routine of roleplay, how to perfectly integrate into a specific scene environment to reflect the core temperament of a character is something I have continuously tried to improve. This outfit layout as a whole is not an exceptionally complex or heavy style, but the accessories and makeup details were not reduced because of it, making the entire output process flow more naturally. Light, movement, and clothing are all indispensable, and the final results this time ultimately didn't betray the expectations during preparation. I'm highly delighted to freeze Sparkle's vibe during this process, which not only left precious images but also accumulated more experience regarding complex lighting and casual-style character shooting. I hope to try more similar photography scenes and styling variations in the future.
