After this photo sat quietly on my hard drive for nearly a year, I finally decided to take it out and share it with everyone.
When shooting this set of photos, in order to fit the character's white-gold color palette, everything from the curl of the wig to the weight distribution of the gold decorations on the costume underwent repeated testing and adjustments. This shoot and the post-processing refinement really took a lot of effort. Special thanks to the photographer, Abin, for precisely controlling the live light and shadow, and to the retoucher for deeply polishing the special effects and color atmosphere. The material of this outfit is prone to overexposure under bright light, while easily losing details in low light, so we specially chose a lighting method with ambient diffuse reflection to present it.
In terms of pose design, I challenged myself with a pose supported on one leg with arms stretched wide. Combined with the yellow silk threads and virtual light effects surrounding my body, this was done to recreate that tension of seemingly weaving all things and controlling destiny. The black thigh ring on my thigh and the high heels on my feet indeed made maintaining a balanced center of gravity more difficult, but to present a picture with the highest level of completion, this had to be overcome. The semi-transparent multiple afterimage treatment in the background added a layer of ethereal grace blended with divinity to the static image.
When dealing with the wig, I paid special attention to the curvature of the sideburns and the stray hairs in front of the forehead, as this directly affects the profile contour. The golden twin tails not only needed to be glossy but also had to present a natural fluffiness when swaying with movements, rather than a messy, frizzy look. The stone pillars in the environment and the depth of field in the background also brought some challenges to the composition of the picture. I needed to keep my spine straight during fixed poses while relaxing my shoulders to create a sense of ease. This balance looks effortless in static photos, but holding it for over ten seconds actually tests one's willpower significantly.
Speaking of post-processing, I was originally caught up in some trivial details, always feeling that my presentation of the character could have more texture, so I kept procrastinating, and a year passed. Recently, coinciding with the game's rerun period, I dug out this data set again, only to find that the dedication and effort back then were still vivid in my mind. I decided to use this opportunity to express my love for the character and Honkai: Star Rail through this photo.
In today's booming ACG culture, being able to transform the gorgeous yet heavy settings in games into realistic and visible visual works through the art form of cosplay has always been my motivation to keep shooting. This look is magnificent but not extravagant; the white and gold color scheme retains a god-like purity while incorporating sharp lines. To match the imagery of the "Golden Cocoon," I specifically asked the retoucher to build a semi-enclosed shape with golden light bands in the picture, accompanied by light dust flying all over the sky, hoping to convey the character's idealistic and romantic attributes within the frame. Although some time has passed since the shoot, looking back at this set of photos, I can still remember every bit of repeatedly capturing the position, adjusting hair strands, and balancing the center of gravity in the studio back then.
This pursuit of perfection is indeed exhausting, but the moment I saw the final photos, that sense of satisfaction was irreplaceable. I am very happy to share this memory that spans across time, and I hope this set of photos can present the unique depth and sense of power of the Chrysos Heirs.
