Although this shoot for Erin cosplay in the Pomme de Amour skin from Honor of Kings was a bit tough, the final photo results are truly a wonderful surprise. The costume has so many design details; the light blue and white color scheme combined with an ethereal texture brings a full sense of a fairytale once worn. Especially that pair of semi-transparent fairy wings, which features lots of fine glimmers under natural light and excellent light transmittance. To showcase its lightness, we put a lot of thought into the location selection and composition. Also, the colorful yarn balls and lace trim embellishing the skirt hem perfectly match the whimsical setting of this skin.
The weather on the day of the shoot was exceptionally hot. Bracing the high temperatures, we fussed around in the outdoor fairytale town setup for most of the day, and by the end, I really felt a bit of heatstroke. However, the presentation of this costume happens to require the enhancement of this outdoor natural light and greenery background; a studio shoot would instead make it hard to bring out this kind of fairy garden atmosphere. During the early communication, we settled on a keynote combining a magical girl and a little fairy, hoping to showcase the character's cuteness and a touch of bravery.
I absolutely must mention my darling photographer "Gushi"; she is truly a super talented person. For this shoot, she not only served as my photographer but also doubled as a posing instructor. Many times, to capture the best light and shadow on my profile, she practically had to lie on the ground or crawl into the flower bushes to find camera angles. The fairytale cottage and hydrangeas in the entire setup were also specifically selected by her, and she personally handled assembling the prop weapon and securing the wings. Having such a tacit and professional collaboration made the shoot particularly reassuring, even though it was tiring.
During post-processing, we also tried our best to retain the natural skin texture and fabric wrinkles, avoiding excessive stylized filters, focusing more on restoring the fresh and comfortable visual experience of a fairy in a summer garden. As a complete cosplay photoshoot, whether it is the handling of props or the styling of the wig, I feel we did our absolute best with all our heart.
