This styling recreates a casual daily look featuring Animal ear elements for Atago from Azur Lane (Atago cosplay / 2D Cosplay). The combination of the white Lace top and long straight black hair creates a striking visual contrast, offering both the playful charm unique to 2D anime characters and modern Chinese-inspired design elements.
Regarding the wearing experience, this white Lace top is sheer and form-fitting, so I did my homework on innerwear, opting for light-colored seamless lingerie to avoid visible lines. The lace cuffs are loose and flared, creating a gentle drop-shoulder effect when lifting my arms, making the posture look light and graceful. For added depth, the inner white satin fabric is smooth with a subtle sheen, catching the warm light gently to create a tactile contrast against the matte lace, avoiding a flat look from monochrome white. The mandarin collar design flatters the neckline, while the keyhole cutout at the chest is just right—fitting Atago's confident, elegant demeanor and highlighting the collarbone lines.
For the animal ears (Animal ear elements), I used invisible bobby pins tucked under the dense wig, leaving zero visible attachment marks from the outside. The ear props feature a black base with a subtle grey gradient at the tips, boasting rich plush texture and strong 3D depth under lighting to maximize visual realism. The wig is a lush, straight black style; the blunt bangs not only look youthful but also minimize empty space on the face, while face-framing strands over the cheekbones make the face look delicate. A white ribbon loosely tied on one side drops naturally, adding dynamic motion to the frame while echoing the white costume.
For makeup, the focus was on a clean, flawless base, as white clothing reflects light and any uneven base can make shadows look muddy. I used a lightweight liquid foundation paired with targeted concealer, highlighting key areas like under the eyes and the corners of the mouth. For eye makeup, the emphasis was on depth: a warm brown base with fine shimmer in the center of the eyelids, combined with curled lashes, made the eyes look lively and bright. Amber-colored contact lenses with a moderate diameter gave a natural look, making the gaze appear gentle. The lips and blush were unified in warm orange-red tones, harmonizing perfectly with the cozy indoor warm lighting.
Trimming the bangs required delicate precision—maintaining density without being heavy enough to obstruct the eyes. Thinning them out naturally created smooth lines, and the side locks beautifully contoured the jawline. Up close, wide-angle lens edges stretch the perspective, so to avoid stiff posing, I gently lifted my hand in a relaxed posture with a subtle smile. This showcased the lace sleeve tiers while keeping body lines fluid. In framing, utilizing lower-frame space conveyed the garment's extension without clipping the hair or ears, making the half-body framing ideal for highlighting all design details.
Since it was a selfie shoot, I had to balance holding the phone with expression management. Extending my arm outwards added visual tension and prevented the frame from looking cramped. While the form-fitting lace demanded care when moving or raising arms, the flexible placement of the white ribbon didn't restrict movement. Even without a photographer, adjusting angles repeatedly helped find the most flattering perspective for the waistline and neck, producing a satisfying ambiance. From wig trimming and prop sourcing to makeup, styling, and finding the right lighting, it took nearly an entire afternoon. Although exhausting, coming as close as possible to Atago's essence before the lens was immensely rewarding. Recreating her composure and elegance from Azur Lane through this blend of traditional grace and modern playfulness was a true joy.
