For this shoot, we set the theme "Golden Lion Hidden in the Cave"—not to hide a real beast in a cave, but to utilize dim rock walls and overhead lighting to recreate a mysterious anime world. The location chosen was a real Cave set of cavern ruins, surrounded by abundant broadleaf plants and vines, with mottled stones scattered across the ground. Complemented by a beam of light descending from above in the center, the environment itself maxed out the Atmosphere.
To match the mature older-sister aura inherent to Golden Lion, I specifically chose this sleek long blonde wig for makeup and hair, paired with signature elf ears to give the facial contours a softer yet gracefully distant feel. The white tulle gown worn was another focal point; the fabric is exceptionally lightweight and translucent, allowing the lace edges across shoulders, arms, and skirt hemline to exhibit an airy, transparent texture under overhead light. The center of the dress is adorned with delicate metallic chains, which, paired with a high-slit cut and golden strapping accessories on the legs, beautifully sculpted my silhouette.
For the first close-up shot, I chose a pose with one hand resting gently against my neck. Seemingly casual, this motion actually demanded precise control over shoulder-neck lines and gaze—expressing a certain languor while allowing the gaze to pierce straight through the halo into the lens. The photographer used a wide aperture to blur out the intricate branches in the background, which, combined with a strong overhead spotlight, created a gorgeous rim light along the hair strands while sculpting shadows across the bare neck, collarbones, and skirt slit to achieve a clean separation between light and shadow.
The second wide shot established the environment, where I placed a chubby, round yellow prop beside the stones on the left. This prop created a charming gap-moe against the solemn and mysterious ruin setting, matching the subtle playfulness hidden within Golden Lion's personality. To ensure full-body harmony in such high-contrast shots, I constantly adjusted my center of gravity while standing, tilting my body slightly with arms naturally resting down to prevent looking shortened under wide-angle perspective.
Shooting in a cave was considerably more difficult than imagined. First, the temperature inside the Cave set was low and the air humid; this thin tulle dress offered zero warmth, so after each framing was completed, I had to bundle up quickly in a dark cloak fabric to warm up. Second, this expansive white tulle material is very delicate, easily snagging on surrounding dry branches and sharp rock edges, demanding extreme caution for every positioning. Fortunately, synergy with the photographer was seamless throughout; during lighting setup, we repeatedly adjusted the overhead light barn doors and reflector angles, striving to let light scatter evenly along the gown's silhouette rather than creating harsh, blown-out glare across the ground.
Wig maintenance required continuous care: with high humidity in the cave, the blonde hair easily lost its fluffiness, so between takes I constantly used a comb and styling spray on the ends and bangs to prevent messy frizz. Maintaining a specific posture for long periods really tests a cosplayer's endurance—especially facing high-intensity artificial light sources that made the eyes sore, yet still needing to keep the gaze clear and the expression composed.
Compared to outdoor natural light, this cave environment crafted purely with artificial lights gives the photoset a more dramatic, cinematic quality. Through precise expressions and body language, the 2D character breaks out of flat illustrations, imbued with living emotion and warmth in this Roleplay. In post-processing, focus was placed on preserving highlight details and shadow tiers from raw files without over-smoothing skin, maintaining the authentic contrast between rugged rocks and airy tulle. Although white garments easily reveal imperfections under overhead light, it is precisely this authentic texture that builds the independent, dynamic elf persona in my heart for this Golden Lion Cosplay from Azur Lane. No need to pursue flawless perfection—a touch of ambient dust adds narrative depth to the scene. This endeavor allowed that dignified yet mysterious Atmosphere to flourish, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process of delving deeply into the character's soul within this unique setting.
