[Cheshire Cosplay] Royal Maid at Black Dragonfly Anime Convention Reporting to the Commander

For the outdoor venue of Black Dragonfly Anime Convention, I came with the maid look of Cheshire Cosplay from Azur Lane. The overall costume design incorporates many lightweight elements on top of the classic black-and-white maid uniform; the cat-ear headpiece and white lace bows enhance the character's playfulness, while the multi-tiered black-and-white ruffles and long trailing ribbons at the hem provide wonderful dynamic flow during standing and turning motions. To fit the character's personality, I specially styled a short wig with teal highlights. The hair's glossy sheen, combined with light-blue contact lenses, looked remarkably translucent on camera, and pairing it with this off-the-shoulder, backless maid dress brought together both the elegance of a maid and the energetic vibe of a royal vanguard.

Regarding the location selection for this outdoor shoot, we framed shots along the red water barriers on the pedestrian walkway, as well as moved to a grassy lawn laid with a white plush rug. Outdoor natural light actually tests post-processing quite heavily; because the summer of 2026 was scorching and the direct sunlight on site was harsh, I primarily handled the color grading myself to retain a cool-toned palette throughout the images. Handled this way, the teal highlights and blue eyes became prominent visual focal points, while desaturated shadows cleanly filtered out the clutter of the outdoor environment and added a refreshing cool touch of a summer evening. During post-processing, I also paid special attention to controlling highlights on the dark skirt and white lace, ensuring a consistent viewing experience across different screens.

In terms of movement design, photographer NightDiva and I worked in seamless synergy. We captured the balance of standing on one leg, the fleeting moment of the skirt swirling as I turned back, and various interactive seated poses on the grass. The photo chosen as the cover utilized a low wide-angle upward perspective, which beautifully stretched the silhouette proportions, especially showcasing the sleek, elongated lines of the glossy black platform Mary Janes and White thigh-highs outfit. Extending a hand forward naturally guided the viewer's gaze toward the character's upper body, creating visual tension without crowding the edges of the frame. The cool tone in this image, paired with the glossy specular highlights on the platform leather shoes, makes it the most visually impactful shot of the set in my opinion.

Furthermore, the prop bouquet of white daisies served as a charming accent during Maid costume photography. In the medium close-up shots, partially concealing my face with the flowers made the expression appear more understated, matching the clean lines of the black-and-white lace maid dress harmoniously. As a cosplayer, walking around the convention in this outfit and receiving enthusiastic feedback from fellow fans was deeply rewarding, helping me feel even more at ease in front of the lens. The Black Dragonfly Anime Convention had already reached its third day; despite some physical fatigue, bringing this work to document my present state is the exact joy that cosplay brings me.
