[Ellen Joe cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Shark Girl Braving the November Cold Wave in Changsha

The sudden drop in temperature in Changsha this November caught us completely unprepared; our impromptu shooting schedule collided head-on with a cold wave, leaving us no choice but to brave the elements. As an Ellen Joe cosplay, this outfit is virtually defenseless against winter's chill. When we originally scheduled the shoot, we thought November would still be pleasantly cool, but the cold air gave us an unexpected frosty welcome.

Returning to the costume details, the outer white plush fleece coat actually carries substantial weight, looking like a draped cloud. Under warm indoor lighting, both its tactile feel and visual texture are exceptional, easily sculpting richly layered silhouettes. But the crucial issue is that the inner layers are relatively thin, so whenever the wind blows, the biting chill seeps through relentlessly. The headpiece design is quite intriguing, featuring silver-white metallic gear ornaments paired with white ruffled frills to create a distinct silhouette. To ensure the sharp elements atop stay securely in place, I used hidden clasps, ensuring the headpiece wouldn't shift during head turns or low-angle upward shots.

The choker combining black leather and silver metal around the neck is another visual focal point of the styling. The leather is crisp and stiff to prevent collapsing, though finding the right angle when wearing it is essential to stay stylish without feeling choked. The layered white fabric over the shoulders combined with the black inner top establishes a clean, sharp black-and-white contrast. The red ombre highlights at the hair ends echo the crimson contact lenses, providing a striking pop of color amidst the predominantly cool-toned palette.

The shooting perspective this time was also quite interesting—captured from the high perspective of a 177cm-tall photographer friend. This elevated bird's-eye angle, combined with my seated posture on the ground and wide-angle lens foreshortening, accentuated both the head profile and the voluminous plush coat, projecting a languid yet subtly commanding presence. The first wide shot seamlessly integrates the overall styling with the vintage café backdrop, where black-and-white checkered marble floors and a green bar counter evoke a space blending gothic and vintage aesthetics.

The second photo is a close-up selfie angle holding a red lollipop, which was a small prop prepared for this shoot. During winter outdoor or continuous indoor shoots, holding a stern expression for long periods easily leads to facial stiffness; a small lollipop serves as a colorful accent while allowing facial muscles to relax between takes. The red candy sphere subtly echoes the red eyes and hair tips, making the frame much more vibrant.

This experience certainly serves as a reminder for cosplayers doing Winter cosplay: never trust weather forecast temperatures blindly in winter. Even with a plush coat, the actual warmth depends heavily on the character's original design. Fortunately, shooting inside a retro-style venue provided warm lighting and shelter. Cosplaying often involves not only perfecting makeup, hair, and costume accuracy, but also contending with the weather. Yet seeing the final photos capture that cool, detached, and languid temperament fitting the Zenless Zone Zero character so well made freezing worthwhile.

Overall, despite shivering from the cold in Changsha, the harmony between makeup and styling achieved the desired effect. The black-and-white palette complemented by silver metallic accessories looked exceptionally clean against the vintage setting, highlighting the character's cool and confident sharpness without superfluous clutter.
