For this Ellen Joe styling from Zenless Zone Zero, the focus was placed on visual impact right from the preparation stage. Regarding the wig, to present the layered feel of a black base with red tips, I didn't directly use off-the-shelf products on the market, but instead re-trimmed and lightly permed the hair tips to make the stray hairs at the edges sharper, fitting the character's rebellious trait. In terms of makeup, the eye makeup is the core of the entire face, utilizing ultra-vibrant bright red contact lenses paired with an elongated, slightly upturned black eyeliner to suppress the cold and fierce look in the eyes. The white geometric sticker on the left side of the face looks simple, but to ensure it had presence on camera without ruining the overall texture due to reflection, I tested several materials and finally chose a matte finish, fixing the edges with special glue to ensure it wouldn't curl up during the shoot. In terms of clothing, the black-and-white color-blocking design blends the ruffles of a maid outfit with the tactical-style belt buckles. To support the silhouette of this outfit, many adjustments were made to the inner wear, especially the multiple belts and metal buckles around the waist, which not only had to be tightened to prevent shifting during large movements in the shoot, but also had to ensure smooth breathing. The sawtooth decorations on the chest and neck are made of hard materials, but the edges are smoothed out so they won't scratch the skin. The biggest challenge was undoubtedly the huge black mechanical weapon. Its massive volume and solid material make it exceptionally heavy. On the shooting site, holding it single-handedly requires extreme wrist strength; otherwise, it's easy to look stiff due to an unstable center of gravity. To showcase the character's sense of power, I purposely strengthened my arm practice beforehand. During the shoot, lighting setup was crucial: strong frontal light not only illuminated facial details, but also perfectly outlined the weapon's black metallic luster and the mechanical structure of its red components. The darkened background and blurred bokeh completely isolate the subject from the environment, focusing all attention on the facial expression and that exaggerated giant blade. In terms of posture, I tried to keep my upper body upright, using the weapon's obstruction to create a sense of oppression, with my fingers gently pinching a thin black stick near my mouth, attempting to infuse a hint of relaxed playfulness into the cold tactical vibe. Every shutter click is a re-understanding of the character, pulling the character originally existing on screen into the real light and shadow through clothing, props, and body language.
