The complexity of the outfit details for this Ellen Joe look from Zenless Zone Zero far exceeded expectations, especially the combination of the black-and-white zigzag edge at the neckline and the silver zipper, which is instantly recognizable at first glance. Shooting at an Outdoor location on a sun-drenched terrace was actually quite a challenge; while natural light brings out the costume materials, it can also make red contact lenses and facial shadows tricky to control.

The red highlights at the tips of the wig are the soul of the styling, which, paired with the white branch-like bone hairpin, nicely balances the overall black and gray color scheme. The layered ruffled pleats on the outfit, the horizontal white topstitching on the corset waistband, and the asymmetrical length between the red-and-black striped sleeve and the solid black sleeve cover require finding the right angle during shooting to accentuate the 3D layering. To fit the character's setting of being lazy on the outside yet aloof in temperament, I deliberately minimized exaggerated movements during shooting, mostly leaning against a white wrought-iron chair to give the overall atmosphere an effortless casualness. The woven flower basket filled with blue-violet blossoms on the right side of the frame provides a vivid warm-and-cool color contrast for the entire dark-toned styling, preventing the image from looking too dull or stifling.

Wearing red colored contacts is key to creating the character's killer gaze. The eye makeup deliberately controlled the lower lashline drop and the smudging range of the eyeshadow to avoid an overly heavy look from masking the character's original world-weariness. The eyebrows were trimmed sharply to match highlight moments. Overall, the material selection for this costume is also very exquisite; both the sleeveless top and the skirt use slightly stiff fabrics, which, paired with silver zipper pulls, present a great metallic luster under lighting. The white pointed decorations at the collar add a playful touch to the black base, while the large hoop earrings are the finishing touch.

In terms of composition choice, this full-body photo maximizes the display of the garment's tailoring and leg lines. The combination of black long leg warmers (Long socks cosplay) and thigh straps, plus the zigzag hem design of the black miniskirt, allows every seam and pleat detail to be seen clearly under the bright outdoor light. During the shoot, to prevent the relatively complex accessories from looking cluttered, the photography team repeatedly fine-tuned the light source angle so that sunlight shone down from the upper side, creating beautiful highlight reflections on the silver zippers and belt metal hardware while cleverly avoiding harsh, dark shadows on the face. Black fabric can easily glare or become a muddy blob under strong light, so aperture and exposure compensation parameters had to be precisely controlled—a fraction more would overexpose, and a fraction less would lose the texture on the clothing.

In the process of interpreting this character, I felt her unique temperament lingering between combat and laziness. To recreate this state, the cosplayer cannot be overly tense; movements need to be relaxed and in place, while the costume and makeup must maintain sufficient sharpness for Anime cosplay. This set of photos with strong light and shadow captured this comfortable visual contrast just right. The post-processing did not involve drastic alterations, essentially preserving the raw, vivid texture of light and shadow, with the focus solely on fine-tuning skin tone balance and highlight gradations while ensuring shadow areas of the garment retained valid details. Overall, this semi-outdoor experience shooting under natural light went very smoothly; the weather and surrounding scenery cooperated wonderfully, allowing most stamina to be focused on capturing character emotions rather than futile repositioning. Creating in this naturally relaxed overall atmosphere enabled an accurate transmission of the character's seemingly indifferent yet distinct and imposing aura. To find the most aesthetically pleasing angle, we deliberately moved the table and flower basket to the edge of the frame to anchor the foreground, ensuring the frame didn't feel overly empty. The lines and patterns of the white wrought-iron chair also created a wonderful echo with the black-and-white geometric elements of my costume, making this a very hassle-free and photogenic endeavor.
