Walking around the Firefly ACG Expo over the past two days has been quite physically taxing, but the photos captured in the Silver Palace zone made all the exhaustion completely worthwhile during this Convention photography.
The core concept of this Dark gothic style cosplay styling is being "beautiful yet dangerous." To highlight this concept, I invested immense effort into the makeup. The base makeup required a clean, matte texture, with primary focus placed on the eye area. I chose high-pigment orange-yellow contact lenses paired with heavily blended red-toned eyeshadow, elongating and sweeping up the outer corners to project an edgy, sharp aura. To add unique detail, I dotted a few subtle moles beneath my eyes to draw the visual center directly to the face. The lips were painted in a classic true red to harmonize with the overall palette. For the wig, I selected a brown short wig with red highlights, trimming and styling it myself, topped with a golden spiky headdress that instantly maxed out the aggressive edge.
The costume details are equally worthy of record. The tight black strapless dress is crafted from a fabric with natural structural firmness rather than extreme softness, nicely supporting the upper body proportions. The most eye-catching elements are the shoulder decorations, blending golden feather-like accessories with red crystals to deliver an exquisite, heavy-industry opulence. Because the shoulder pieces carried notable weight, I had to consciously maintain a straight, elevated posture for my neck and shoulders during the shoot, which unexpectedly refined my posing. The wide golden collar and long necklace around the neck were essential to elevating the dark aristocratic aura. The pearl chains wrapped around my arms alongside the black leather gloves served as the finishing touch.
Regarding props, I prepared a Red rose prop and a weapon hilt adorned with golden decorations. Holding the red rose with black-gloved hands creates a powerful chromatic contrast that instantly grabs attention. The combination of the red rose and the sword hilt serves precisely to echo the theme of danger.
Shooting on-site at a convention indeed brings certain challenges. The ambient natural light was far from ideal, but fortunately, the Silver Palace booth featured professional lighting setups. After consulting with the photographer, we utilized the on-site blue-purple ambient lighting as a backdrop while I positioned myself directly under the key light. To make the dangerous aura feel authentic, I had to sustain a consistently sharp gaze, occasionally touching my lips or face lightly with my fingers to heighten compositional tension. Because I wore black leather gloves while handling a metal-detailed sword hilt and a thorny rose, operating props required extreme caution. The rose thorns had been pre-processed, yet the leather gloves still restricted finger dexterity, so adjustments to poses had to be executed slowly and deliberately.
Putting on this styling is quite sweltering, especially the wig and the collar; wearing them all day long amidst a bustling convention truly tests your endurance. Yet every time I see the texture of the photos captured in the camera, I feel that everything was completely worth it. This Dark gothic style cosplay outfit broke away from ordinary daily states, discovering a deeply expressive and high-tension presentation through the collision of colors and textures.
