[FGO cosplay] Everdistant Utopia: A Visual Record of Blooming Flowers and the Battle Bow

The post-processing for this FGO set has finally wrapped up, so I'm sharing it to talk about the process behind the photos. The overall setting is built around the theme of the "Everdistant Utopia," so I deliberately composited petals into both the foreground and background of the frame to convey that enclosed sense of being enveloped. The costume's combination of a white cape with deep blue and gold-trimmed sashes stood out vividly at the convention, and the white hair was easy to manage. What required the most care was that red-and-black battle bow—the White-haired battle bow aesthetic, combined with the smudged red marks on my hands, effectively conveyed the character's rich narrative depth.

The shoot took place on Day 2 of the Firefly ACG Expo. The venue had heavy foot traffic, requiring constant maneuvering to avoid passersby, which demanded immense patience from the photographer. We specifically scouted an open space with ample negative room, utilizing the venue's overcast grayish-white sky as a base background. In post-processing, we lowered the background brightness via color grading to accentuate the fluttering pink petals in the foreground and the distant white ruined towers, evoking a desolate yet romantic atmosphere.

To capture this shot properly, we repeatedly adjusted our positioning to ensure the character remained centered without getting cut off at the edges. When holding the bow, my arm had to stay constantly tensed to preserve the bow's complete lines and perspective, which was quite exhausting after finishing the full set. The post-processing focus revolved around fine-tuning the distribution logic of the petals, keeping them consistent with the original lighting distribution. For the red details on my hand, I intentionally retained a weathered, wounded texture to make it look less pristine, better aligning with the character's state of mind in that environment.

Since there were many convention photos this time, picking the right angle for the cover took a fair bit of time. Ultimately, I selected this shot with a relatively balanced composition enveloped by large foreground petals as the key visual. Being able to recreate the aura of the Utopia through this styling and Flower sea post-processing was a wonderful experiment and a brand-new experience for me. This outfit was very easy to walk around in at the expo, with well-balanced weight distribution. The lighting on site shifted rapidly, so we tested different exposure setups in pre- and post-production, ultimately choosing this richer, more dimensional presentation. I hope this collision of cool tones and warm petals brings everyone a delightful visual experience.
