A tremendous amount of thought went into bringing Odette's styling to life today. Being a character set in Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya, the overall atmosphere naturally had to lean toward ice, snow, and aristocratic elegance. The attire features a blue-and-white gradient palette; the metallic accessories at the chest and gemstones at the waist were cast from custom molds, as tactile texture is crucial. To capture that icy sensation, I chose an ice-blue to white gradient long wig, with the feathers and wing hairpiece on the crown specially anchored to prevent slippage during shooting.
The shooting location was a pure white European palace with Roman pillars and faux blue snow flowers, elevating the space's cool detachment. The floor had a reflective finish, posing a lighting challenge. To avoid harsh, pitch-black mirror reflections on the floor, we used a softbox paired with reflectors at a 45-degree side angle to ensure natural facial shadow transitions, while allowing the floor's glossy sheen to accentuate the textures of the Stockings and skirt hem.
For makeup, matching the cool-toned palette, light blue served as the eye shadow base, deepened at the outer corners, paired with luminous ice-blue contact lenses to enhance the gaze's piercing clarity. To emphasize that premium aesthetic inherent to Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya, the base makeup was kept pristine, with highlighters placed on the nose tip and cheekbones. Because there were many seated and reclining poses, the folds of the skirt needed constant tidying, while keeping the white pantyhose sleek and clean to prevent distracting creases or shadows.
To capture a natural yet subtly haughty expression, we tested numerous camera angles. In the reclining shot, because the hard floor distributed back pressure unevenly, we ended up placing a soft cushion underneath to achieve a relaxed, languid demeanor. While sitting against a pillar, I slightly adjusted the knee bend to elongate the leg lines. Post-production color grading in Lightroom avoided heavy-handed shifts; it primarily unified the cool tones and desaturated oranges, making the entire frame look crisper and purer.
The lore of Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya inherently carries a rich narrative weight, so I kept my gaze deep and evocative while posing. The sleeves and gloves feature intricate tailoring, making bending the arms somewhat stiff, yet the resulting photos proved immensely rewarding. We explored various compositions to seamlessly merge the character's elegance with the snowy ambiance.
From the moment I commissioned this costume, custom tailoring cycles and detail discussions took quite a while. The Snezhnaya background implies a sharp, sub-zero chill, so for fabrics I deliberately selected pearlescent satin and iridescent textiles that cast fine glimmers reminiscent of ice refractions under intense lights. Golden accents on the chest and waist were resin-cast and hand-painted, while clear acrylic rhinestones were chosen to catch luminous sparkles on camera.
Styling the wig was another major undertaking. Wavy gradient curls frizz easily; before each setup, every lock had to be straightened with a flat iron and set with freeze spray. The headpiece—featuring feathers, wings, and golden arcs—was doubly secured to the wig base with bobby pins and hair glue. To ensure a seamless transition with the blue-and-white headpiece, I trimmed wispy front bangs so no seams showed from frontal or side views. To keep the headpiece from shifting during movement, we inspected it meticulously before every pose.
Makeup longevity was another priority. The spacious venue wasn't hot, but continuous exposure to baking studio lights could cause oily shine. I prepped with oil-control primer and applied the fairest cool-toned foundation. The eye makeup used tight lining paired with ice-blue lenses to heighten eye depth. To fit 2D aesthetic sensibilities, single-cluster false lashes were applied along the lower lids. Blush was kept minimal, brushing a faint cool pink beneath the eyes to preserve an aloof aura, finished with a sheer nude-pink glassy lip glaze to plump the lips.
The set design was exceptionally deliberate. White spiral stairs, classical sculptures, and expansive blue-and-white faux floral arrangements stacked together, testing chromatic harmony. I had the photographer attempt high-angle overhead shots and low-angle upward compositions. In the reclining shot, to dodge messy floor reflections, the photographer lay prone to shoot upward. To maintain fluid leg lines, postures required continuous recalibration, especially since white pantyhose magnify every tiny fold under strong key lights, requiring adjustments every few minutes.
In the seated shot on the white chair, folded hands looked casual but actually highlighted sleeve and glove craftsmanship. Made of glossy fabric, gloves wrinkle easily over knuckles, which I had to stretch and adjust with my fingers. The chair featured intricate silver carvings on the backrest, with its height complementing the gown. For half-body close-ups, I tilted my shoulder angle to accentuate collarbone lines and slim the face profile.
Posing directions adapted to varying setups. Leaning against a pillar, I shifted weight slightly backward with one leg straightened and the other bent to maximize leg length. Kneeling by the floral cluster aligned with the blooms' direction, utilizing petals as foreground to enrich framing depth. The over-the-shoulder glance was tested repeatedly to reveal the back cutout while keeping direct eye contact with the camera.
From early prep to final delivery, every stage of this shoot strived to echo the atmosphere of Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya. Despite hurdles like neck strain from a heavy wig or numbness from prolonged static posing, everything dissolved upon seeing the completed photos. I hope this work conveys the captivating charm of this sub-zero realm.
