When shooting this Lumine cosplay, the core idea was to capture the gentle moments of the character pausing to rest during her journey across Teyvat. In addition to matching the usual fantasy tone of Genshin Impact, I chose to use this casual outfit with a vintage magic academy style to present an image of a Traveler who has taken off her sword and armor to immerse herself in books.
To recreate the magical feeling of paper floating and fluttering in the frame, we used quite a lot of transparent fishing lines on site, paired with high-speed continuous shooting, to suspend and fix the book pages in various suitable positions. The candle flames combined actual shooting with post-processing fine-tuning to ensure they retain the warm-toned atmosphere without causing harsh highlight interference to the overall soft lighting. Regarding the lens focal length choice, we intentionally kept the floating pages in the foreground and the stacked old books in the back, utilizing depth of field to construct the frame's layered texture. The customized treatment of the blonde hair and eye color also strived to fit the original character design, hoping that amidst the flow of light and shadow, the character traits from Genshin Impact could naturally blend into this story-filled space.
Every time I engage in this type of atmosphere-focused cosplay, setting up the scene beforehand takes a lot of effort. Not only do we have to coordinate the heavy stacking of books, but we also have to repeatedly adjust the number and position of candles to determine the direction of the main light source. During the shoot, the photographer used a wide aperture to highlight facial details while cleverly blurring the candles on the right into beautiful bokeh spots. The combination of the beret on the head and the plaid pleated skirt eliminated the sharpness of a combat character, adding a slice-of-life touch of a Traveler exploring and seeking knowledge when facing unknown nations.
The moment the shutter clicked, looking at the flickering candlelight around and the genuinely falling paper, everyone felt that the days of rushing and preparing were totally worth it. This time, it wasn't just an external replication of the character from Genshin Impact, but through specific scene props and thoughtful light and shadow calibration, it conveyed a tranquil, warm, and slightly mysterious atmosphere. I hope to showcase this unique charm belonging to the Traveler through this roleplay creation.
