I have submitted my independent travel application for both days of the 4th Guangzhou AP Comic & Game Carnival. As a photographer participant, I will be at the Nanfeng International Convention and Exhibition Center from July 26th to 27th.
As a veteran player and photographer, I am truly looking forward to securing an independent travel pass for the event. Choosing July 26–27 for both days allows me to fully immerse myself in the convention atmosphere while having ample time to create inside and outside the exhibition halls. As someone who loves documenting convention life, convention photography is both my passion and my primary way of engaging with anime expos.
I am quite satisfied with my preparations for this independent travel pass, striving to stay as true to the character's soul as possible—from outfit assembly to wig styling—while ensuring great results on camera. The photos showcase several character outfits in distinct styles, and I personally adore shots taken under the open blue sky for their exceptionally natural feel. These include a refreshing light-colored dress paired with white socks, as well as techwear or academic daily outfits styled with black thigh-high socks or tights as part of the sock styling.
Mastering light and shadow was crucial during the shoot. In outdoor settings, shooting against backlighting created beautiful lens flare that filled the frames with warmth and youthful vitality. Indoor shooting inside the venue utilized professional lights and convention illumination, effectively highlighting fabric textures and outfit details. From bows and straps on costumes to folding fans and magic wands, as well as layered hair accessories and wigs, we carefully controlled every detail so that every finished photo presents the best possible state.
The Guangzhou AP Comic & Game Carnival brings together enthusiasts from various subcultures, including cosplay, Hanfu, fursuits, tokusatsu, and Lolita, while featuring interactive appearances by popular cosplayers and influencers. Participating through an independent travel application in such an atmosphere not only lets me make new friends but also provides inspiration through shooting and being photographed. Experiencing emotional nuances brought by different character identities and exploring visual aesthetics beyond daily life is precisely where the charm of combining roleplay and photography lies.
Producing great convention photos is never as simple as pressing the shutter. Months of advance costume hunting, pose designing, searching for optimal camera angles, and on-site positioning and light adjustments require dedicated effort. Holding the dual identity of both photographer and cosplayer, I enjoy freezing moments for others while savoring my own time before the lens. It serves as both a practical test of technique and an emotional tribute to ACG culture.
Guangzhou's recent weather has been fantastic, with clear blue skies and white clouds enhancing outdoor photography immensely. Reviewing these photo sets, there are school-style close-ups in front of iron fences outside the exhibition center, playful dress looks against architectural backdrops, dynamic jumping shots of a red-haired character, and a quiet scene displaying Eastern charm with a fan and plush toy on a white plush carpet. Each style brought me a completely unique shooting experience and emotional reward.
Heading to the Nanfeng International Convention and Exhibition Center with these meticulously prepared outfits, I aim to bring this passion and dedication for character portrayal to the two-day convention. As an applicant under the independent travel application for photography, I look forward to inspiring sparks and conversations with fellow fans. I hope this medium of visual storytelling records a memorable time reserved for ACG enthusiasts, and I hope to meet many more friends who share a deep love for cosplay and convention culture over these two days to celebrate character outfits and convention vibes together.
